Socks !
Re: Socks !
I find that as I age the time taken to put on apair of socks is increasing, bloody toe piece or heel piece never end up in the right position on first foot entry and consequently lots of grunting and groaning as I try to pull them into some semblance of order. Bloody socks ,mumble mumble.

Knew a Sailing Club member once - he wore one red and one green socks all the time, Port and Starboard.

Re: Socks !
For some, mostly ex-Rhodies and South Africans, not wearing socks, particularly with their velskoene/vellies (desert boots to others) is a sign of one's toughness and authenticity...
The writer Eugene Marais noted that Englishmen, in their effete way ( ), could always be identified by the fact that they wore socks with their boots...
For the truly authentic look, the lack of socks is de rigueur!

Re: Socks !
It is socks with sandals or flip-flops that marks the true British gentleman.

Re: Socks !
Nobody pairs my socks (as should be evident from my photograph) as all my socks are singletons. If I go to M&S and buy half a dozen pairs, half of the pairs run off and hide after the first wash !
Re: Socks !
ok, but you could pair the remaining 6, and so on (after buying the next batch)?
On second thoughts, this global problem could be developed into a tongue twister:
socks suck
sock sucks
sucking socks suck?

You could always do as parents do for children's gloves. Tie them together with string.

Re: Socks !
Tried the brilliant idea of tying socks together, fell over when I stood up. Next suggestion please....
Re: Socks !
Just bought a pair of wellies (not vellies) that are tied together with a string.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 11:53 amYou could always do as parents do for children's gloves. Tie them together with string.
I'm saving them for a day when I'm not going far.

Re: Socks !
This socks suck session reminds me of the three brothers named Rijk, Richard and Robert (their father's name was Roland, memorable to me as he was a Harvard/T-6 instructor pilot in the Air Force) who were fellow boy scouts who attended camps with me back in the dark mists of time and whose mother had neatly sewn name tags on all their clothing/uniforms, including all their socks, with the singularly unhelpful name R Batley, generically for all the boys and their father! As one might imagine chaos reigned as the various sized Batleys struggled with the wrong socks, shirts etc. and were invariably late for parades etc. as they battled each for the correct fitting garments, socks mainly, much to everybody else's amusement.

Re: Socks !
A number that is never forgotten for the rest of one's life.
At the time of the camps the only person in military service was the Batley dad. Funny, I do remember that he was an utterly atrocious driver, which in retrospect I find peculiar as I have found pilots to be, generally, good drivers.

Re: Socks !
I try to buy identical pairs of socks so it doesn't matter which two get paired.

Re: Socks !
Far worse is when both husband and wife have black underwear, on these dark mornings half asleep one gets dressed and its only an hour later in the gym changing room that the lacy underwear is revealed as such.

Not the ones I can think of, doors held together with string, wings crunched, enthuse about the Austin Princess, another about the Ford Jelly mold.
