Australia, Iran and the virus.

#1 Post by SOPS » Wed Mar 04, 2020 11:19 am

I am wondering about something. The virus is being spread in Australia by people returning from Iran. I’m assuming Iran is not high on a Tourist must see destination.

Are these people who have come to Australia as ‘refugees’ and received resident status and then are returning to Iran although the came to Australia claiming ‘persecution’ in Iran.

I’m highly suspicious this is the case.

So to prevent the situation getting even worse, I would suggest that if these people are now comfortable with returning to Iran ... they should be told they can stay there, and not come back.

We have already had 1 idiot that came back from Iran, got sick, tested positive for the virus and was told to go home and self isolate. Well that worked well... he went to the supermarket on the way home to stock up!!! And as the health minister has said today they are doing broadcasts in Farsi to explain to people they must self isolate, I’m even more convinced we are not dealing with Australians returning from Iran after enjoying a holiday of a lifetime in the great country of Iran.

That seems a reasonable supposition.

It’s not fake news. You can’t find loo paper in Australia. The whole country has gone mad. People for some reason are panic buying.. mainly toilet paper. Supermarkets are empty of toilet paper.... also tinned food, milk, rice , pasta, flour, .. lots of stuff. Petrol is getting hard to get.. the whole country has gone crazy.

That's just in Sydney, love. Down the coast no empty shelves in the supermarket, and lots of petrol to be had. People just going about their normal shopping.

I'm spending my annual hols in Oz at the moment, mainly in Melbourne, but have also been down the Ocean road and am now in Noosa before going back to Melbourne at the weekend. On the Ocean road the resorts are suffering from a lack of tourists but at Noosa, whilst their are a lot of vacancies for rental accommodation they aren't worried because this is their quiet month before the Kiwis and Southerners arrive. apparently the Chinese aren't interested in Noosa because they don't think their is anything to do or anywhere to go.
Melbourne is certainly showing a lack of tourists, mainly Chinese but also Europeans. We walked through the casino a couple of weeks ago(the largest in the Southern hemisphere, allegedly).Normally it would be packed 70/30 Chinese but it was nearly empty with only about 10% Chinese so they will be suffering financially.
We go back to Melbourne at the weekend, dont know if i should pinch the bog roll and take it back with me!!
