WRT retaining their titles, Duke and Duchess of Windsor retained their titles.

OK if you throw them in a short westerly direction, Oh-prah included... :D

I think he could have taken Private Pike's place in Captain Mainwaring's platoon in 'Dad's Army' - 'Stupid boy!' He's thrown away his own family (they are his family, despite any odd cuckoo genes) and chosen a life in La La Land with a scheming partner. Good bye Harry, missing you already! :YMPARTY:

I wish he would disappear from our news media but fear we're going to hear about him and her for many years, just like Edward and Mrs Simpson haunted the British public's thoughts for years. I'm sure the Queen sees the similarities which hurt her father so much, as does Kate who can see the extra burden it has placed on her husband.

Even if they stayed perfectly quiet (Not Possible!) we would still see/hear about them on anniversaries and birthdays of kids.
As to the throw...maybe Elon could help with that. :ymdevil:

I think it is time for a much slimmed down version of the Monarchy. While we're at it we could replace the Lords with an elected upper chamber and slim down the Commons. They could all be accommodated in Government owned flats nearby - think of the savings and lack of expenses fiddling. :YMAPPLAUSE:

Thanks pp - maybe Elon could stow them away on one of his rocket trials for a few bucks. ;)))

The only issue I take with your post is my bolded bit in the first part of that last sentence. He did go in harm's way in Afghanistan ...twice...so I think he earned his crust in that respect. Otherwise, no arguments with the rest of your post.

In the case of the Windsor's, wasn't this the title he was given when he abdicated?

The title he left behind was HM King!

I don't think a 'good riddance' would be too harsh.

Nope. Not even if you throw Opra into the sea as a goodwill gesture.

It's so ironic that the most British one of that German tribe facked orf abroad, innit.

His uncle, the bloke who made that truly brilliant speech at his sister's funeral, also facked orf abroad, to Sarth Effriga.

It's only the German ones who hang around like a fart in a phonebox. There's a lot of them. Germans, I mean, not phoneboxes.

Traditionally, when addressing couples, the male is addressed first (Mr and Mrs, Duke and Duchess) though HM is an exception.

Now it seems that Meghan and Harry have adopted this regal style.

G CPTN, I meant to delete my post above as I realise what you meant. That Meghan is usurping Royal protocol.

It seems to me that they are being (no doubt very expensively) advised by some US PR company. The statement about service is typical of the sort of thing you would expect from them. I've worked with a few of them and they can be nasty pieces of work. They will not understand or care about royal protocol. They will have been asked to present a case for the Sussexes and this, presumably, is the best they could come up with. Sniping is often the first resort for these organisations, because their skills in English are not sufficient to use more diplomatic language.
Such statements will only distance the Sussexes further from the British public, even those who are not monarchists. Sarah Vine is absolutely spot-on with her analysis.
