BBC in article about heat pumps describes them as "no noisier than your fridge/freezer so should not disturb your neighbours". Yes, you BBC cretins, but our fridge/freezers aren't bolted to a wall OUTSIDE the house.

BBC has had new logos designed. The characters are slightly wider apart and a different font is used. The costs of the new design, out-sourced, are confidential.

You bet they are.

Brilliant idea OFSO......out-source the BBC.

OFSO, our neighbours fitted an ASHP to their bedroom wall (no room at ground level) and 10 feet from our bedroom wall. It was also near our patio. We never heard a thing.

My BiL has one, 9 years old, inaudible when indoors and unobtrusive when you are outside.

They are going too far this morning, using every (made up) opertunity, relavent or not, they can find to attack the UK Government over Covid. They are making up false news items at the front of bulitins using presenter's comments to sound as though it is very important news, which it isn't.

It is disgraceful. The DG should be called to account then fired. There is clear incitement to attempt to cause panic in the population by the false content being broadcast.

Tonight there was a propaganda program "Shop Well for the Planet?" which set out to get one family, one family to reduce it's carbon footprint.
This was to help save the planet.

While India, China, and the Colonies exist and continue their path, what difference does one family, nay the whole UK make. None, that's what.

Pissed off of Torrox.

I was having the same conversation with the plumber this morning about gas boilers. He reckons the whole idea is ridiculous and will never see the light of day. Apparently these heat exchanger things cost about £10k each, but I imagine costs would come down if they were ever put into full production. Everyone I speak to about wind farms tell me they are grossly inefficient, not least because of the high maintenance costs. Meanwhile, as you say Wodders, much of the rest of the industrialised world continues to dig coal out of the ground and burn it with little or no 'scrubbing' of the emissions.

Meanwhile, the BBC continues in full PC mode...

AIUI, heat pumps are fine down to an ambient of -5degC.

I guess that below -5degC you'd need to double up (at extra expense).
The performance of the heat pump degrades when the ambient temperature drops low which makes less heat available for the heat pump to boost. As the temperature goes down, the heat pump uses more energy to produce less heat because heat pumps use electricity, this can be expensive!
Many heat pump suppliers claim the heat pump will supply the rated heating capacity even in lower ambient temperature. But that is not the case. It is not technically possible. One should be aware of this false claim and want you to make a smart decision in heat pump selection.

Having few computers running helps quite a bit. That room always maintained a comfortable temperature in winter even without the radiator on in the room. I wonder if the heat generated by the pump is wasted or whether that gets fed into the system.

This morning the presenters on "Today" are trying to backtrack on their hysteria fueled programme of yesterday. They have "experts" who have come forward and are in the studio with a "no panic" message.

Have the BBC made any attempt to appologise?.......don't be silly.

They are however trying to revamp the "Today" programme on Radio 4 and their other presenter lineups.

I found an excellent website about heat pumps, info not sales. Essentially for one kilo of power in you can get 2 to 3 kW out. Until gas prices rise to over half the price of electricity it says still with gas.

If you have solar panels, a heat pump and battery storage, ideal. My BiL bought a house with solar and pump but needs to consider a battery.

We were quoted £6.5k for solar and battery but have no storage tank for hot water and are on mains gas. Switching to the full deal looks good, provided you are under 40-45.

You might be surprised to learn that a 'Climate Denier' like me has a Heat Pump too. I certainly was!

It's actually an a/c unit, but it does warming too, in a heat pump fashion, ie it has no heating elements in it. Must say it works quite well, although it only heats a couple of rooms and doesn't do hot water.

A Radio 4 presenter has just made the suggestion that "the Palace" may not be telling the truth about the Queen's health.

We have three reverse cycle a/c units. All heat well. In the very unlikely event I ever build myself a house it would be heated only by a/c units plus at least one wood stove.

Poor old Nicholas, he looks as if he is about to fall off his perch, or bream, but I shouldn't carp!

Looks like death warmed up poor fellow!
