The Eurovision Broadcast Union said it then created a "substitute aggregated result"

How very European of them!

I am reading anecdotal reports about a higher turnout today, higher than the local elections, but only from people who appear to be Brexiteers, so I do not have a complete picture in the UK. Turnout across the Netherlands appears to be a slight decline on the last time, in line with the recent trend across Europe in EU elections.

Municipal elections and presumably also the EU elections in Spain always have the Local Police guarding the polling stations. They of course know every face that turns up to vote, which tends to dissuade older folk who remember 1936-38. Safer not to get involved.

Everybody knows everybody round here also. With the amount of patronage jobs, public and private, one can be unemployed the next day if one is seen campaigning for the wrong party. Who one votes for is unknown, and given the very high turnouts here and the sometimes very large majorities for either of the main two parties, most people must have voted for both at one time or another. I saw quite a few people coming into the campaign office wanting to contribute to the 'new' party in non-visible ways. Didn't want a sign, didn't want to talk during a home doorknock, but happy to provide food for the volunteers, stuff envelopes, etc. The times they are a changin' though. We had several cases of two different party signs on one lawn, and from the names database I had I know it wasn't always the same gender supporting a particular party. My older colleagues said they had never seen this before, and one had done 90 elections of various kinds.

In the UK it's illegal for the media to publish or discuss opinion polls or exit polls or straw polls until after the polling stations have closed.

That will be at 10:00pm tonight.

Complication: It's a European poll and some countries don't close their polling stations until Sunday night.

Does that mean there won't be the usual news coverage of the UK results at 10pm tonight?

Correct, prohibited until 10pm Sunday. There was an article in the Telegraph.

My local polling station seems to have been busier today than during the council elections a couple of weeks ago.
It's always my fault - SWMBO

I keep wondering why the 'men in grey' don't go and visit May. Now I'm beginning to think it should be some people in white coats.

I think she is, technically speaking, nuts, certifiable, in a bubble, whatever, but not all there.

Because she hasn't been doing anything significantly different from 2 years ago, and what would that make them for keeping her there all this time?

A political pigmy about to be replaced by...well, what's even smaller ? The choice of possible successors is SO depressing. Bet the ground above Thatcher's grave is showing signs of disturbance.

It's a bit unfair, to horses that is, to make the comparison to a race. However, here's a list of the nags involved....

If this was a race, even Peter O'Sullevan or Michael O'Hehir would be hard pushed to commentate in their own inimitable styles...

And I found out what happened to the Grantham Margaret Thatcher memorial rose. As they couldn't find a place where it would not be stolen by admirers or trashed by opponents it was taken to the council offices and left in its pot where it almost died. It was taken home and brought back to health before taken to a secure garden where It could be admired by Labour or Conservative alike.

Bob missed a trick there, he should have painted her in pale colours as a ghost.
