Re: BREXIT - A Poll & Discussion
Anyone remember the board game 'Risk'? If you mastered it you realized you can take over Europe but you can't control it for long. The best bet was to control South America, build and protect it, and then take over North America.

Kamchatka!
I remember controlling that was the key to expanding from middle-sized player to World Domination.

Re: BREXIT - A Poll & Discussion
Strange that the Kamchatka peninsula was the area near which KAL007 was shot down by the Russians.
Although on this occasion they promptly acknowledged responsibility for it as an act of self (air) defence.
Until that incident very few people had ever heard of it.
Just musing aloud & not trying to drag the thread off track, unlike that unfortunate aircraft.

Re: BREXIT - A Poll & Discussion
I had an Avalon Hill board game, Blitzkrieg. Tiny chips, you could stack them but had to keep checking their combat strength. Board took a day to set up with blue on the left, red on the right, neutrals between them. One rule was simple, who ever entered a neutral country first made them friendly to the other side.
I am sure there must be an EU analogy there

Re: BREXIT - A Poll & Discussion
Thread Drift Alert !! !
Did anyone discussing Brexit notice Barnier’s comments?
1) Theresa May never ever mentioned “No Deal” since day 1 of the “negotiations”.
2) Barnier commented he “didn’t have to do very much on their side, the Remainers and the British press were doing his job for him”.
Now where did I park that guillotine?

Re: BREXIT - A Poll & Discussion
It's about time that our politicians checked their job description.
They are there to do as the population wish, to allieve the common clay from the odious task of running the country.
Refer Plato 'Republica' if clarification required.
Their own views matter not a whit.

The politicians will do what they and a lot of other people always do. If nobody effectively holds them to account, catches them breaking the rules, and effectively punishes them (all three are required), they will do what the f#ck they like.
It's always the electorate's fault in a democracy. Physician, heal thyself!

Well, Foxy.
I agree, and like you, I fugged off.
It rips my knitting.....
If I were motivated, and had the touch for it- and could be arsed.....
I'd do what Nigel Farage has done.
So hats off to him.
I'm here in Kazakhstan- not exactly a pillar of democracy, but working and happy.
The UK needs a boot up the arse more than anyone, and I hope it eesa-coming.

As this awful woman's verbal assailants are sent to prison for objecting to her, here's s little sampler of the poor innocent crittur and her chequered past:
This guy Mahyar Tousi has a selection of short vids explaining things we either never knew or had forgotten.
There's a good one on TV Channel4 "impartiality" amongst others.

Re: BREXIT - A Poll & Discussion
Back to basics:
The reason for having a referendum was that 'Europe ' was identified as an issue, but parliament couldn't decide.
Thus, a Referendum.

So a referendum was arranged, and the issue resolved.
Ermm. That's it.

Re: BREXIT - A Poll & Discussion
I don't think so. Cameron committed to it in order to stay as Conservative leader. He was getting increasing pressure from Tory backbenchers, who in turn were getting it from their constituents. The reason for having a referendum was that 'Europe ' was identified as an issue, but parliament couldn't decide.
The majority of MPs didn't and still don't want either referendums or to leave the EU. They have nothing but contempt for the electorate.
The UK was taken into the EEC on a lie, further committed by multiple treaties and more lies in which the UK electorate, unlike many in Europe, were not given a say.

Jo Swinson would not accept any vote of Leave no matter how many referendums were held.

Leader of the Greens now also states she would not accept any referendum result except the one she wants.

These idiots need to be reminded how democracy works.
Clearly, they've forgotten.

That is if they ever knew, wanted, or even cared to know how democracy works.
