Well it happened.

For many of our UK residents and ex-pats BREXIT is probably one of the most momentous events to have taken place in decades. I suspect there will be very few here that it will not impact in some way. So I've set up a separate forum area as I feel there may be value in having somewhere specific to discuss everything related to the changes. From related UK politics, European politics, travel, work, passports, pensions and financial issues, etc. Enjoy

Matt's cartoon reminds me of the shock horror, Apocalypse end of the world predictions that Montréal would be come a ghost town when the separatist Parti Québécois came to power in the 1970s and nearly all major head offices based there shifted across the provincial border to Toronto. :-?

Well the PQ did not exactly create a utopia for Quebec. Quebec is still struggling economically compared to some provinces.
Their main claim to fame has been in propping up a second-class language.
I left before they took power. Not a great place for an Anglo. Scotland should take heed, even though Quebec is not a nation except in their own minds - you need more than fervent nationalism to have a stable, economically viable country.

The UK is not the first country to leave the EU, did y'all know that?

Back in 1985 Greenland left the then European Community after a referendum by the people of that country. :-bd

Greenland left, I seem to remember, by virtue of its administrative separation from Denmark.

Strictly Speaking, Greenland left the EEC, not the EU. Nor is Greenland recognised as a Sovereign State (it's not a UN member, for instance) - technically I believe home rule elevated it from a Danish Colony to a Danish Constituent Country (roughly the equivalent entity of Wales, Curaçao or the Cook Islands).
Greenland joined de facto with Denmark in 1973. It gained Home Rule from Denmark in 1979, and left the EEC as the result of a Referendum in 1982. The EU formed in 1993.
So, the UK will still be the first country to leave the EU.

The EC was the precursor of the EU. So, although Greenland didn't exit the EU it did from the EC. But, yes, Britain will be the first country to exit the EU.

After the rush to leave all these European countries will be looking to form a new alliance. Time for the UK to step up to the plate and welcome them to the fold. Then the UK can dictate to the Germans and the French what the terms are for joining the new team!

Oh, how we laughed!

Did I see the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz dictating to Dave Cameron when he had to start The Process ? Surely not !

Didn't Algeria leave the EU/EEC/Common Market on becoming independent from France?

Greenland and St Barts are also mentioned. However, none of the three are in Europe, geographically. Mind you, Australia and Israel are in Eurovision.
I blame the standard of geography teachers these days....;)

"I blame the standard of geography teachers these days."

Hell, they've had to adjust Australia. It wasn't where it was supposed to be.

Australia is moving. This isn't so surprising—all the continents are on the move, and Australia drifts 70 millimeters to the northeast every year. But that journey is starting to mess with systems that rely on pinpoint accuracy, specifically GPS.

The country its currently updating its very longitude and latitude to correct a divergence with global satellite navigation systems. Geoscience Australia, a part of the Australian government, is behind the project of getting the Geocentric Datum of Australia, the country's national coordinate system, up to code and bring it in line with international data.
