We have Danish friends whom we visit from time to time, and with whom we meet in Italy every year. Hearing my wife trying to pronounce Rugbrød is an instant cure for melancholy.

I like Italian as a language. There's something about the rhythm that appeals to me. I've been picking it up over the years, and am now on a series of small-group courses to formalise what I already have.

I find Welsh, spoken by a young lady, quite pleasing

I hate the Welsh accent, possibly because I have Welsh tenants and they are loathsome lying scumbags. There's a programme on BBC1 after the news at 6 with a Welsh woman with a big mouth and big teeth, her voice and accent are like nails scraping on a blackboard. Fortunately the programme is introduced by a jarring discordant noise, which gives me time to hit the kill switch before she starts. I think her name is Alex Jones.

The sexiest UK accent by far, on a woman, is Norn Iron, but there are lots of varations on it, surprising for such a small land area.

From 1967 to 1974, I lived and worked as a service engineer, on the borders of Hereford, Gloucester, Monmouth with many trips into Wales proper and thoroughly enjoyed my time there and the Welsh people.

The area from Newport up to Pontypool and along the Heads of the Valley to Ebbw Vale and Merthyr Tydfil was my normal stamping ground, but on night shift and at weekends we had to cover all the way west past Swansea as far as Clydach and Llanelli.

Agree with Alison's comment above. There is, as they say, no gain without pain.
We celebrated last night, Brexit being the main item on the agenda, and as per my #43 above, I sold two of my Welsh properties so have now got rid of two liabilities, the others are going next week.

I read it's gonna cost England 60 billion bloody Euro to get out of that trashy Union. Is that true?

No. Well, not exactly. The UK has contractual commitments which run well past whatever date we finally shuck off the EU. If we observe the letter of those commitments we are bound to pay until when ever it is. Or we adopt the 'French solution', hear nothing, do nothing, pay nothing. Or we can say "sure we'll pay but in exchange we want this....." and if we don't get it, back to the French solution. I do believe it's called having a bargaining chip.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04 ... hire-rose/

The European Union flag on driving licences and number plates could be replaced with a Cornish flag or a Yorkshire white rose, ministers have suggested.

Two Conservative Cornish MPs Scott Mann and Derek Thomas will support the plans to replace the EU banner with the distinctive Cornish black flag with a white cross or other regional symbols after Brexit in a Commons debate next week ............

Early in the morning of 24th June, the detested words 'European Union' disappeared from the front of my passport.

The tawdry little EU 'flag' on my UK driving licence has been neatly replaced by a Union flag.

Although my mother died in 1995, her former cleaning lady is still alive and is going out to vote on my behalf today with my proxy (as well as her own vote). She's in her late eighties but is Doing her Duty. Wonder how many of the youth will bother getting up in time to vote ?

Incidentally it is the first time I have ever voted in an election. If only to stop the Dianne Abbott jokes on this thread !

As far as I understand the yoof contingent largely can't be bovvered to vote. This serves to ensure that the socialists are kept out of power, as it ensured Brexit. Therefore let's not knock their laziness

Supporters of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) are demanding Theresa May allow a banned loyalist march as part of an agreement by the Northern Irish party to prop up a minority Conservative government.

The Portadown Loyal Orange Lodge (LOL), who are currently prevented from marching in the flashpoint Gavaghy Road following a long history of sectarian violence, put out a statement amid speculation as to what concessions the DUP could demand in return for striking a deal with the Tories.

Orangemen were banned from marching through the nationalist area of the mainly loyalist town following repeated riots during the Troubles. Protests against the ban culminated in 1998 with the shocking murders of three young boys after their house was firebombed in a loyalist arson attack.

I laughed this morning driving to work, the posh bird BBC R4 news reader said (something like),

" .. the worry is that the DUP will cause problems with oranges .... er orange order demands"

Just seen a msg stating that Brexit will mean a straight deficit in the EU's budget of around €10 billion and to compensate for this it is possible farm subsidies will have to be cut. Howls of rage from French farmers no doubt.

In addition to the loss in income of €10 billion the EU will have to invest funds in areas currently under UK responsibility and "it is probable that the €10 billion deficit will double by 2022."

Yeah, my heart bleeds for 'em. Meanwhile taxes in Spain went down this year (I was told) because the economy is so strong and they have so much money. "Have" doesn't me you and me, it means the banks as that's where the billions of taxpayer's money has gone.

Sh*t. Wrong thread.
