If it's a big production you get hundreds of new citizens in a room and they're all swearing their oath of allegiance together. I don't know if it's a standard format, or whether there are variations in the 'entertainment' bit wrapped around the formal and legal bit at different venues, given that most people attend a maximum of one ceremony.

Btanl, that was why they didn't buy TSR2, it has moved too far East.

When my son had his UK citizenship ceremony, just before he turned 28, there were about 100 people attending.
There were about 8 white Caucasians : The two officials conducting the ceremony, the three of us, an old British man with a very young Nigerian bride whose eyes had sparkly £££ signs in them, and a couple of Aussies.
The ceremony was conducted by an ex-High Commissioner to Bongo Bongo land or some far flung ex-Imperial African hellhole, and was conducted with just the right touch of gravitas and humour.

Yes well....at my last Passport renewal in London, other than myself nobody was white including the staff behind the counter. And when I went to collect the finished article, only two of us were white, and the other was a drunken Irishman.
I've just noticed the date of his post and it ain't recent.
Bugger!

EA01, what should have happened a couple of years back. Shut the doors, tell it how it is, go for a coffee, come back and tell 'em it is still like it wos. Leave and wait.
Covid has been a useful distraction for the media and let the negotiations move on.

Reports of multiple shortages in UK have reached the redoubt.
Can this be true, or are the sunny, post-brexit uplands awash with milk, honey and fuel?

And the Dutch.
Dutch trade unionist turns the airways blue on #radio4 this morning:“The EU workers we speak to will not go to the UK on short term visas to help UK out of the ***** they created themselves”

Well, they can mock, but my understanding is that a number of EU countries are also suffering from a shortage of drivers too, to say nothing of their other problems. I have always thought the British a bit superior in this regard. When things go wrong sur le continent we don't extract the urine as a rule. Breeding y'see - and diplomacy. This is why people like to have British passports

That sounds to be how Boris would put it. "I'm stuck for a response but I'll try and convince them I'm really too well bred to need to say anything of substance" Are you an ex Etonian too?
In fact, as Olaf Scholz stated today, there are some eu countries with a driver shortage but in the EU freedom of movement stops that turning into a crisis.
