The skeleton of the Macon airship's hangar at Moffett field is well worth a look, the airship having being lost off the Californian coast.
In 1959 attended RAF Cardington for RAF entry assessment. Remember well the airship hangar. Bloody huge it was. Wonder if it's still there.

Alison I can confirm that the Grade II listed hangar is still there at Cardington and remember seeing that it had been sold sometime last year. I will look on the tinterweb for more detail.

Yes here it is. God knows what these developers are going to do with it? :-?

It had been used to house the Airlander 1 blimp. airship.

I do believe that there is a market for Harvard's in South Africa.
The SAAF were about the last Air Force to use them. There were hundreds of them shipped to SA during WWII for the Empire Flying School.

A guy I know was involved with a company that owned about 6 of them. It went bust. Dunno how the a/c were disposed of.

The skeleton of the Macon airship's hangar at Moffett field is well worth a look, the airship having being lost off the Californian coast. It is a pity that the hangar, an incredible structure in its day, has not being preserved properly over the years, although it may have been re-skinned recently, but it seems that some Americans care little for their heritage if they cannot exploit it, a sentiment that will chime with Trump and his regime who are infamous for their desecration of many sites of interest and natural beauty all over the USA and elsewhere in the world for that matter. The other two hangars there are also worth a look if they haven't been sold for lumber yet.

I've stood in that hangar, they have open days when you can go look at a lot of the base and the big wind tunnel and other bits.

I visited the airfield, but not the military base(s) some years back in the early 90's before the naval base was shut. A very interesting place as you say. I hope that the hangars are preserved for future generations as part of the US's fascinating aviation heritage.

I noted with some concern, see the posts reference Cardington in the UK, that despite the fact that the large hangar there is Grade 11 listed, there is some question mark about its future! We humans all seem to know the price of everything and the value of nothing, no matter where we live. My comments in my post were unfair to be honest, there are some absolutely fantastic people working very hard to preserve these sites in the USA as there are in the UK and elsewhere as well.

President Donald Trump has visited a newly constructed section of his US-Mexico border wall, describing it as "virtually impenetrable".

Virtually?!! I would damn well hope so or you septics should be asking for your military budget money back.

May I counter that President Trump has made every effort to secure our borders, both with law enforcement and physical barricades. At every turn the opposition has blocked every effort to stem the flow of illegal aliens into our country. The Democrats have two primary motives for doing this:

1. They want to deny the Trump administration of any achievement that will reflect positively on his administration and its prospects for re-election in 2020.

2. They want maximum illegal immigration in the hopes the unskilled, helpless, impoverished, and future imprisoned immigrants will one day contribute to an unassailable Democrat electorate.

The administration has been quite clear that immigrants who come to contribute are welcome, while unskilled immigrants seeking to tap into the welfare and anchor-baby spigot are not.

""Virtually?!! I would damn well hope so or you septics should be asking for your military budget money back""

With the apparent ease the drones, cruise missiles or whatever managed to penetrate the Multi Billion Saudi air defenses supplied by USA, do you think they should be asking for their money back to??

America certainly is not the only country with that problem, and the difference with most is that the political parties with the same end in mind are not called "Democrats"

Version 1.0

I know I shouldn't pick on Trump for his looks but look at the fake tan tide mark on his fizzog in that photo above!

What a preposterous character he is.

Benjamin will be here soon to tell you that the tan line is GREAT for the US economy, fear not, and all the KAG supporters are queuing up to have it done.

And Lil Phat Phuq's barber is going to open a franchised chain of shops across the US as bonkers hairdos are all the rage nowadays.

What brand name will he choose? Caligula, of course.

He'll make a bomb. Oops! :|
