You would think that any sane politician of either party would declare that something has to change, that we can't go through this pantomime again. Unfortunately Washington works on the basis that "although we may be in opposition we still ride the same gravy train so don't mess with the system".

Indeed, boing - the USA is on the groundhog loop. Maybe the Biden team can switch the points.

Biden will do nothing useful personally, he will be used as a figurehead and be given credit or blame for the plans of his managers. The Democrats realised that anyone too far left was never going to stand a chance in an election so they popped old Mr. Nice Guy Joe in there to appeal to the centrist voters knowing that a) Joe will die in the job and give Harris a shot or, b) at worst, he can be influenced to go along with their plans. Why do you think Joe, after two tours as Vice-President was not given a shot in 2016 and Hilariously became the Democratic candidate? He should have been supremely qualified for the job but he was bypassed.

People love talking about "the next four years" of the President's period in office but don't forget that the mid-term elections are where the congressional power can change. Unfortunately for us, the positioning for the 2022 elections is going to start in January.

The catch with the Dominion machines is that the majority of counties in Pennsylvania that used them voted for Trump.

To me it just shows that none of these voting machines are to be trusted and it should all be done with paper ballots that can be independently audited afterwards, as happened in Georgia. I seem to remember the Senate refused to vote in favour of improved election security and procedures, now it appears to have come back to bite some of them.

It might also be that at that point he wanted time off, because he said he didn't want to stand for election at that time.

in 2016 he was 74 years old. Certainly, under normal circumstances, turning down a chance at the Presidency would mean he would never have another opportunity."He wanted time off" was probably perfectly true but he could never have envisioned that he would finally stand for office.

Regan, up until now the oldest president, was 78 years old when he left office but this was after two terms as President. Biden is starting his Presidency at 78 years old. The average life expectancy of a US male is 76 years.

Unless, of course, he contracts C19 in which case our resident O-N statistical experts will tell you he will live significantly longer.

AOC says time's almost up for Pelosi, Schumer: 'We need new leadership in the Democratic Party'

The coup in the Dems. is starting sooner than I expected. Pelosi goes, Schumer goes, Biden isolated, this little ambitious, rich girl, spite-bag with influence. Stand by to rock and roll.

Could somebody enlighten me as to how the American electoral system of choosing the vice president can in any way be called Democratic. The person chosen as the running mate of the president is only chosen by the president elect. In the present case the Democrat nominee, Biden, has, by his own admission, lowered his choice down to a very small percentage of the population, by stating A his choice will have to be female, cuts his field down by 50% or thereabouts, and then that female must be of colour , cuts the field down to about 3% of the population. The one he has chosen got some 5% of the votes in her own state when a vote was taken for Democrat presidential nominee.
So, if as is very likely, Joe Biden does not see out the distance, the next president of America was chosen, on his own, by one man?? Surely I must have something wrong here???

I think all the members of the cabinet are appointed (annointed?) by the president, secretary of state, defence etc. unelected, ambassadorial appointments by patronage not career diplomats.

Originally, the top vote-getter was president and second place became Vice-President.
I'm too lazy to look up when it changed to the current system.

Found this, https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smithson ... ian-180957

Something funny though, I found the answer, at that site, now it tells me page not available.

The Presidential candidate selects the running mate. For a while this has been a vote gathering exercise instead of a serious choice of a potential replacement as Prospector pointed out.

Kamala Harris is a socialist but AOC as she is known hates anybody whose fore-fathers lived in a time of slavery.
