A few years ago London police shot a Scotsman in the face because he had a coffee table leg concealed in a plastic shopping bag.

He'd stopped in a pub for a pint on the way home from collecting the repaired leg. Somebody in the pub mistook his Scots accent for an Irishman and phoned the rozzers to say that he was carrying a rifle or a shotgun. Met's finest shot him in the face and killed him.

Then there was a case where a Met hit squad set out to kill a Pakistani guy. They picked a random bloke who looked a bit swarthy and shot him in the face. He was Brazilian, but hey, any Met rozzer can be forgiven for thinking that a South American is a Pakistani. The officer in charge of that botched hit is now the London Metropolitan Police Commissioner. A lesbian called Dick. I promise I'm not making this up!
