"Nog n dag in Afrika ne!"-Just last week the husband of one of my wife's schoolfriends killed in a small holding intrusion by Zimbabwean illegals just north of Wonderboom.

Yes Caco, just another day in Africa.

More and more here in the US the same thing is occurring, US citizens being killed by illegal migrants.

There is enough violence endemic in native South Africans to worry about as well I guess! Personally, while there are bad types coming in, the Nigerians seem to be the crime bosses in Johannesburg these days, now having replaced the Russians, my experience of the Zimbaweans has generally being pretty good. There is good and bad everywhere, including in the USA.

Caco-Do you believe that the socialist/communist principles that govern South Africa have created a prosperous nation?

I would argue that the principles that underpin the philosophy of those that are governing South African presently are more related to those typical of a kleptocracy, rather than being socialist or, even, communist, and as such have been pretty bad for the country. I am a bellever in capitalism, but not the totally laissez faire greed and crony type, so beloved of Donald Trump et al, if that's what you are getting at! I believe in society at large.

It is interesting that Trump seems so enamoured of the cronyism of authoritarian types like Putin who aim to run a corrupt autarky dominated by one leader, the very antithesis of true democracy!

Seenenough, take a look at this https://newrepublic.com/article/152687/ ... mp-america
I didn’t expect, when I first moved to South Africa in 2009, how much it would feel like America. Every place does, more and more; or every place feels increasingly like every other place, a globe of placelessness, the world as duty-free lounge. But South Africa was even more so. It was as if the geographical strata of American society—gentrified urban, marginalized urban, suburban, country—had been compressed into a much smaller area. Outside South Africa’s cities is cowboy country, with wide, fenced ranches punctuated by townlets featuring beef-jerky stores and tractor wholesalers. Closer in are rings of suburbs with split-level houses with pools and the occasional American-style shopping mall. The cities are divided between zones of economic despair and bourgeois-bohemian enclaves reminiscent of San Francisco or Austin.
yes I know you will be compelled to condemn the source but .....

Comparisons are odious but I get the Zuma Trump analogy John Hill and a lot more besides in that good article.

That article is perfectly apposite to the US scenario methinks and is appropriate here.

Interesting when you look at the falsehoods expressed by the Chump and his circus.

'4000 illegals stopped from entering the USA last year' so we need a wall - that is actually 12 at the Southern Border according to Government figures - the rest at airports where the genius has weakened security by laying off TSA workers.

'4 past presidents have told me we should build the wall' - that's actually NONE.

'The Democrats will not fund border security' - not true - they have offered a lot of money for this.

'Rich politicians build walls around their houses' - I guess he means Obama - who has not.

'Loads of murders by illegal immigrants' followed buy a real weepie about how he has held the hands of all the bereaved (almost certainly another lie) - see 1 - only a few came across the border, so what is the problem, Donald? Re-open airport security or you are going to let a lot more in.

'Democrats wanted a steel wall' - no, they did not - the Chump did.

Impressive address.

A bit of a stretch I believe saying that South Africa is no different to the US or visa versa.

There are definitely similarities and that article sums it up well, but let's be careful, lest we incur the wrath of Boac who might sic his pet Sphinx Greta onto us if we continue to discuss SA here (I take the blame, I started it)! ;)))

I would not worry much about Bo.All he does day in and day out is to say how much he hates anyone who does not hate Trump as much as he does. You are safe because you generally agree with him Caco.

"We are on the right side of history!" Which is probably the same thing Hillary said to Bill on the eve of the elections.

Well between them, at least one of them had at least one foot of decency on the floor, like Hollywood demanded in the 50's when filming couples in bed, unlike Trump who has taken public and political discourse in the USA to new lows (vide. the Zappiro cartoon which is emblematic of all that)!

You Trumpista's must get over Hillary, you know. He is the problem now, if only you would understand that, but you won't, I guess, until there is some major schism in society there!

It is becoming apparent that the only 'emergency' at the border is a political one and he is really frightened of a further attack by that Coulter terrorist.
