The thing is, though, that the impeachment charges were very weak and never had the potential to proceed to a conviction. It wasn't justified on its merits, and never had a chance to overcome the Republican majority in the Senate. It was futile from the beginning.

My take on how the Trump/Johnson conversations will go is that they will be friendly and trusting conversations between Heads of State, both on essentially the same page, and both with the tailwinds of their electorates at their backs. Very good things can come of this. I'm old enough to remember Reagan-Thatcher.

You are perfectly right Ben, just like the Jim Crow trials of old where the facts of the case were never the deciding factors.

That may be the best example of a non sequitur I've ever read, John Hill.

If there ever was a perfect analogy, John's got it in one.

It has become perfectly clear that The Tangerine Turd and his cult can't differentiate between the Constitution and toilet paper. Just yesterday The Orange Whig Stand declared himself King and the separation of powers to be a thing of the past.

Those who voted for a fascist to occupy the White House must feel very proud, because that is just what they've got.

Sat-U Lag,

Nothing in your post has any merit but is pure, insulting diatribe. If you are able, post a more polite and considerate point of view and I'll consider and respond to it. If you're not up to that, I can't be bothered.

I find criticism of Trump's style to be quite amusing coming from a subject of a country where free speech is being suspended, law-enforcement is being used for social re-construction, reversed racism is being taught in schools and universities and the rule of law is being ignored in favour of the rule of political correctness.

Trump, as a concept, is what the American voter selected, in a short time we will find out if the country wants to confirm that choice.

Although I do not find Trump a particularly pleasing individual and I do not agree with all of his ideas I can see that he, for better or worse, has successfully given the population a sense of direction to replace the "sliding on a downhill slope" feeling created by his predecessors. Strangely Boris and Trump have both tapped into a national undercurrent which values any sort of semi-capable helmsman in the stead of someone who spends their time looking at the clouds rather than commanding the ship.

If people like SUL wish to impress anyone I would suggest that they flush their own country with a fire-hose before they turn their pea-shooters on the US.

A 'trial' with suppressed evidence and no witnesses is not my idea of a fair trial and neither were the Jim Crow trials.

And with evidence presented by these sort of people to start the ball rolling,

https://needtoknow.news/2018/02/john-br ... lied-oath/

and proven lies by the 2i/c of the FBI and The Democrats screaming for impeachment before he even took office, the FISA court Fiasco, and you would think the Democrat majority calling for impeachment, without one vote in support from any republican for impeachment, was in any way a "FAIR" trial???

No, I would not think that, What happened with jim Crow trials many years ago is more like a whataboutery How long have the Democrats had to present evidence, or facts to the Senate? and what was it they presented? if you had the time or inclination to watch Adam Schiff or Jerry Nadler presenting their "case" to the Senate you would see why their case was so pitiful, Remember Adam Schiff had "incontrovertible" proof of the Russian interference over two years ago, but he has not convinced anybody else with his load of twaddle

The Constitutional structure of the impeachment of the president process is that the House of Representatives prepares the case, hears the witnesses, votes on it and if it passes, sends the case to the Senate for trial. It is totally the responsibility of the House to send the complete package to the Senate for trial after debate and consideration, but not for new witnesses or further exploration of the case involving new facts or discovery. That was the House's job, not the Senate's. So John HIll's assessment of a 'fair trial' is off the mark.

The House forwarded a very weak case for conviction; it's two articles for impeachment were not crimes and clearly inadequate for the Senate to proceed any longer than it took them to throw out the case, ending the charade. The whole exercise was a Democrat strategy to remove President Trump, no matter how contrived and invalid it was, and that strategy failed spectacularly.

Now President Trump is riding higher than ever, and though the election is still a long way down the road, I'm quite confident today that he'll handily be re-elected. Here's some backup:

It remains to be seen how history will assess the current presidency. When President Truman left office he was generally reviled and ridiculed. President Eisenhower waltzed into office almost by acclamation; Truman didn't bother to run, his fate obvious. But as time went by, 40 years or so, President Truman's stock went way up with historians and the public, who finally recognized he served admirably in tumultuous times, was honest, made some tough calls that were ultimately vindicated.

I tend to think that barring catastrophe or disaster, President Trump will be assessed very favorably over time, much like President Reagan. The intervening and contemporary presidents - Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, the Bushes, Clinton and Obama won't fare nearly as well. As you may have gathered, I think President Trump is the right man at the right time. The country is doing quite well despite his withering opposition. Perhaps his most remarkable trait is his capacity to stand up to the headwinds placed in his way by the opposition.

We'll see. One thing's for certain - I'm going to enjoy observing the next 9 months of our endless election season.

Yes - it has been apparent for a long time that the Dems are hopelessly lost. As, I fear, is America.

President Donald Trump is expected to grant clemency to former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was impeached and removed from office in 2009 on corruption charges, and to former New York police commissioner Bernard Kerik, two people familiar with the president's plans said Tuesday.

The news comes hours after Trump signed an executive order granting a full pardon to former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. related to a decades-old corruption charge.

Blagojevich, 63, was sentenced in 2011 to 14 years in federal prison on corruption charges related to his solicitation of bribes in an attempt to "sell" the Senate seat Barack Obama left open after being elected president.

Blagojevich, a Democrat, has been serving his term at the low-security Federal Correctional Institute in Englewood, Colorado.

He was a contestant on Trump’s reality TV show "The Celebrity Apprentice" in 2010.

Kerik was sentenced in 2010 to four years in prison after pleading guilty to eight felony charges, including tax fraud.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has signed an executive order granting a full pardon to former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. related to a decades-old corruption charge, the White House said Tuesday.

DeBartolo, who presided over one of the greatest dynasties in football, pleaded guilty to failing to report a felony when he paid former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards $400,000 to help secure a casino license. DeBartolo had to pay a $1 million fine and was given two years probation in return for his testimony against Edwards, a Democrat.

DeBartolo was banned from the NFL for a year and turned over control of the team to his sister in 2000. While he was the team’s owner, the 49ers won five Super Bowls in 14 seasons. He was elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in 2016. His family had made their fortune as shopping mall developers.

The White House held a brief press event Tuesday to announce the pardon with four Hall of Famers on hand: Jerry Rice, Charles Haley, Ronnie Lott (who all played for the 49ers) and Jim Brown. The four said they had met with Trump to discuss DeBartolo.

"Today is a great day for him," said Rice, who won three Super Bowls with the 49ers under DeBartolo’s ownership. "I'm glad to be here and be a part of that. And you know, it's just something I'll never forget. You know, this man, he has done so much in the community, he has done so much in NFL football."

"I take my hat off to Donald Trump for what he did," Rice said.

Trump has issued 19 pardons since taking office.

Seems to me the coronavirus, now called COVID-19, has delivered a setback to the Chinese economic juggernaut that was scheduled to overtake the US as the world's leading economy in our generation. Today, hardly anyone is flying to or from China, factories and businesses are shut down, companies relying on Chinese manufacture are frantically trying to move elsewhere, the Yuan is devaluing, Hong Kong wants independence - it's a perfect storm.

It reminds me of the 1980's, when Japan industrial efficiency and quality were perceived as overwhelming American industry. We had the same projections we have had with the Chinese in recent years, but they didn't pan out and the US economy is still standing in good stead. I'm anticipating China's current setback will return similar results. They have a lot to recover from.

Apparently now they also have locusts.

Is this God trying to make President Trump look good?
