- I suspect, unfortunately, it is still functioning. It seems to me that the effect of 're-opening' the US by Easter' will doubtless boost the DOW which is his main objective. The economy will 'pick up' too. The effect, however, is a massive spread of the virus - the US is ALREADY ahead now of the infection rate curve of Italy (which is showing signs of slowing -*** NB apparently not according to the figures today... ***). Masses of people, largely the elderly, will die - is this the aim - to reduce the health care costs of the US?

It may be that this 'plan' will work, leaving a 'stronger' US at the end, but at huge human cost. All this to 'boost' his re-election chances. Ask yourselves if it is worth it. The rapid rise in gun ownership in the US indicates that the path to salvation may not be trouble-free. As long as the majority of people left alive are Chump supporters it will work. If not, his 'plan' will have peaked far too early.

Even with his record, the lack of a credible candidate to oppose him, will probably cause his re-election.

Is there any likelihood of a revolution in the Republican party and they nominate a different candidate?

Of course, Cuba, is that what the Bay of Pigs was all about, to get rid of foreign military bases in Cuba

https://www.britannica.com/event/Bay-of-Pigs-invasion

An invasion of Cuba had been planned by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) since May 1960. The wisdom of proceeding with the invasion had been debated within the newly inaugurated administration of President John F. Kennedy before it was finally approved and carried out.
And of course they do have form in planning anything which would trigger a full-blown conflict with Cuba;

Comparisons have been drawn between the “shot down airliner” part of Northwoods and later events prior to the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 but I daren’t mention that in case my mental health is questioned...........

The US invasion of A'stan was in retaliation for the Saudi/Egyptian action of 911 which followed an earlier US attack on A'stan.

Pillocks.

They deserve him.

Didn't Shrub have a 90% approval rating for his nonsense? Even more pillocks.

60% would be those who don't have it yet. "Up you dude I am OK!"

The demographic that favours Captain Combover are especially vulnerable to COVID-19 - These are, the elderly, the obese and the angry.

Big Donalds plan to put the virus on ignore from the 12th of April will be his undoing.

Except that the Plagiarist, who stole a script from the Welsh Windbag (of all people!) is such an arsehole that an even worse arsehole is pretty much a shoo-in.

Trump is finished, because even if he wins again he has degraded US influence to a nadir behind that of China and, putatively, I know there is a pun somewhere, behind that of Russia.

American faux moral preeminence has been proved to be the total sham it is and the concept of "democracy" has been moulded to the authoritarian vision of more intelligent extremists like Putin...

Trump is now an empty wig...

The high point of US power is behind us and we need to look to ourselves to move forward...

That's a wise strategy. It has been President Trump's mantra all along.

Welcome back, Brick!

I'll add to this with one of my favorite quotes from one of the UK's past treasures before it became a Muslim citadel:

"Good night and may your God go with you."

All day I've been thinking as I peruse global opinion and media, trying to figure out all this avalanche of virus threat, societal disengagement, economic tsunami, political discord, ideological intransigence, and all. I keep coming back to the conclusion that President Trump is the John Galt of our era.

Time will tell how the US comes out of all this, but I know where I'm placing my bets, with a hedge in Mexico.

One thing is certain, as President Trump has correctly perceived. You can't throw half of the labor force out of work for very long, which is what we are doing today. As I see it the critical element is getting testing, therapy, mitigation of transmission, and the holy grail - vaccine - developed and distributed to the masses. Only when that happens will this all go away and we can once again disagree on everything else.

The Democrat House (Nancy Pelosi) strategy of House obstruction of the emergency economic aid bill, coordinated with Chuck Schumer, by inserting left-wing giveaways, payoffs, vote fraud measures, et al., was appalling, dishonorable, and callous toward regular people who need help now.

Brick. Are you testing the waters or are you going to stick around? This is a smaller group but it has managed to keep me occupied and engaged. We need guys like you.

Actually he was from Ireland , which has been independent for quite a while.

A) With an English mother, I made the assumption that he held dual citizenship.

B) They are all variations on a theme; kind of like the 'Stans…

C) Still a wickedly funny and clever man.

don't fret, Ben - god has said it will be over very soon - early March, I think he said. People are really quite amazed how much he knows about it - and everything.

At least 60% of those in the US seem to think so.

Those outside really don't matter.

I believe the French took your lunch money...er, masks and medical supplies...recently.

Perhaps you're better served complaining about that?
