There has been a small wave of panic in the USA regarding whether Obamaphones will continue to work after the departure of BHO... In a test at just after midday today the following was texted from an Obamaphone:

I had someone go off at a Govt department here the other day, she effectively said that you give phones, houses, cars,
new furniture to all the black immigrants, why do I not see any of this and why do I not get a house ?

She had a phone the following week.

IMHO she was justified.

I've never seen the need for that program. You can get smartphones in the UK at under fifty pounds, and the cheapest PAYG SIM cards here, loaded with masses of free talk time, free SMS and free internet, cost three pounds in the UK. Are there really people so poor they can't afford that much ?

You work, for me at least, in much the same way a laxative does for others. Does this mean you are entitled to an Obamaphone you mean spirited entity?

There may be people that poor, but with the exception of the disabled and elderly, it's a reasonable assumption that they are lazy feckless dross who have put nothing into the system and deserve to get the same out of it.

Friends (I admit, followers of the Republican Party) in the USA tell me the phone companies love the idea of 'unlimited-use' phones being given out and Washington picking up the bill.

I'm sure the phone companies love the idea of Washington picking up the bill. That would be a change from them paying as they have been since the Reagan administration began the program.

I'm pretty sure the Obamaphones, indispensible when organizing flash mobs, are paid for by surcharges, in the form of surcharges on their bills, extracted involuntarily from cell phone subscribers who pay their own way .
