Couldn't you just open a window and make engine noises? =))

New electric vehicles to emit noise to aid safety.

Another street legal car seen on Sunday not needing an artificial sound generator. Police looked the other way....

Yes unfortunately everybody gets one (irrespective from capacity to understand various issues)

Why they don't have a sensor and a discrete beep on the horn when offenses someone in front.

Does this now mean that electric milk floats (that usually deliver in the very early hours of the morning when there is almost nobody about - most people are still in bed) will be forced to emit 'noise'?

As I may be the only one on the forum who has driven a milk float in the wee hours, I can assure you we are quite alert for the occasional jogger, drunk, eccentric, etc we may sneak up on. What actually surprised the odd person was that we would walk up to their door in winter without triggering their security lights, owing to be being well wrapped up and thus not being registered on the PIR sensors.

I drove a milk float once, many years ago.

Happy not to be the only one.
I did the North East of Leicester for about two months, and part of the Beaumont Leys estate; quite an experience.

Interesting tips as a milkman :D

When all else fails, read the instructions.

I was still at school, helped the local milkman out for a few days and he let me have a go at driving the thing early one morning. I probably should have had a licence of some sort and I was probably still too young to be eligible for one.

Didn't they used to catch fire going 'fast' downhill ?

Remember the lovely milkmaid giving Granville an early morning cuddle in OAH ?

My float was the same design as that in the Father Ted video. They were designed to carry a ton of milk, so could go quite fast when only carrying empties at the end of the shift, about 20 mph downhill is my recollection. However, it was rattling around like a mad thing, as the suspension wasn't up to it. I worked in the dead of winter, so not much opportunity for overheating. I don't recall any electrical burning smells.

Health tourists cost the NHS £150m in unpaid bills as doctors say asking for payment is 'racist' and hospital chases Nigerian mother for £500,000 over birth of her quadruplets three years ago.

Overseas patients have left the NHS with more than £150million in unpaid bills for treatment, a Daily Mail investigation reveals. The cash could pay for 6,000 nurses, 22,000 heart bypasses or nearly 5,500 junior doctors. Two hospitals in London are owed £28million each, including almost £500,000 from one patient alone. Priscilla (top) who was 43 at the time, went into labour shortly after landing at Heathrow airport. She had intended to fly to Chicago to have her babies, but was turned away by US officials who claimed she would be unable to afford the healthcare costs. Priscilla was returning to Nigeria via London when she started to have contractions three months before her due date. She was taken to Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital in west London, part of Imperial College Hospital (bottom right), where she delivered the four babies. Tory MP Philip Davies said: 'It is the National Health Service, not an international health service and it is essential these charges are made for overseas visitors.'

It looks as if we are getting there .......

Thousands of residents on Greek islands hosting large migrant camps on Wednesday kicked off a day of protests, demanding the immediate removal of asylum-seekers.

The islands of Lesbos, Samos and Chios staged a general strike, shutting down shops and public services and rallying in central squares, many protesters waving Greek flags.

"We want our islands back, we want our lives back," was the main slogan.

Asylum-seekers "should be shared out across Greece," 72-year-old Lesbos pensioner Efstratios Peppas told AFP.

"And Europe must assume its responsibilities. It too must take migrants," he said.

The largest camp of Moria on Lesbos island, with a capacity for 2,840 people, hosts more than 19,000 asylum seekers.

"You can't walk alone outside after dark, people get stabbed," Mr Peppas said.

Greece last year again became the main entry into Europe for migrants and refugees, many fleeing war or poverty in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Syria.

The UN refugee agency in 2019 recorded more than 59,000 arrivals by sea and more than 14,000 via the land border with Turkey.
Already more than 3,000 have arrived so far this year. Only a fraction are allowed passage to the Greek mainland while the rest spend months in the camps, waiting for their asylum applications to be processed.

On Tuesday, 17 human rights organisations warned of a rising "climate of discrimination and xenophobia" towards asylum-seekers, who also faced "serious consequences to their well-being and public health".

Capetonian, I am afraid they are after the wrong agenda: instead of asking to close the borders and make the life of the illegal immigrants much harder (they get a lot of privileges), the islanders want to empty the camps by sending the uninvited guests towards mainland Greece.

At the same time, Frontex serves as a welcoming committee and Greece counts on Turkey to stop the flow a country which keeps the flow going and has no intention of changing their tune.

Or maybe not? Let’s not allow the guard to drop as we depart the target location satisfied that the smoke indicates a satisfactory strike?!
