Stop all petrol/diesel imports now; that'll sort out the EU. Cars already in UK to be sold. That will allow dealers to clear stocks. UK manufacturers to make non-hydrocarbon cars only. Those with an electric car in production will get a head start.

Existing cars on the road to continue so garages will thrive maintaining these older vehicles. Introduce a reducing scrappage scheme. Any car over 10 years old gets £XXXX for scrappage. Follow year any car passing the 10 year mark scrappage reduces until it reached zero. Then tax increases at same rate as scrappage reduced .

15years, job done. If you run a classic car then you can probably afford it and pay £20-30 per gallon.

What will happen to 'service stations' currently dispensing liquid hydrocarbon fuels?

Apart from the speed with which current vehicles can be refuelled compared to proposed electric vehicles, the infrequency of the need to refuel (compared with electric vehicles) means that, currently, fewer vehicles per hour need to visit yet there are frequently queues for available pumps.
I suppose that once the liquid fuel facilities are removed they will be replaced by parking slots with electrical recharging points?

Here in Kazakhstan, it's been unusually warm.
Instead of being -25 to -30, dry and high pressure it's been -5 to -10 with lots of snow. It's usually very dry. No sign of the Siberian high either.

So, either GW has arrived big time,band bumped the temp here up by 15C, which seems unlikely, or it's weather.

My money's on the latter, and I've heard tell it's due to el Nina?

All you people - yes, you too Greta - who think the Great Ice Age and the Little Ice Age were anomalies, and the 15,000 years between the former and now is 'normal' (and remember that 15,000 years encompassed the development of what we laughingly call homo sapiens) should consider the unfashionable but very real possibility that the interregnum is in fact the anomaly and that we are headed into the Big Freeze again.

The same generation who need a “Smart Meter” to advise them they’re using energy, the same generation who change their mobile phones every six months, the same generation who replace rather than repair things that break, the same generation who buy expensive water-usage heavy clothing items for one wearing only, the same (continues in same vein til the vet is called in) ?

The radio ads for Smart Meters are now saying that intervention is needed to achieve the promised savings - ie the reduction isn't automatic (!)

Smart readers compulsory in Spain. New one since last autumn. First bill was 40% higher than with old meter despite nothing changing and us being away half the time. Wrote to Endesa CEO, answer was meter is accurate, must be right, get stuffed.

It is quite possible that the meter is correct and the difference is down to the old one under-reading. I remember discovering that the electricity meter in a hilltop building that was powering an amateur radio packet repeater would stop. Turning the lights on provided a kick to get it spinning again, but one time I went in using a torch and sure enough, it wasn't registering. I assume that some time after we left, probably as the temperature dropped, friction would win and it would grind to a halt again.

The way to check a meter is to get a 1kW heater, if possible measure it with a voltmeter and ammeter to confirm what it's drawing and then make sure everything else is turned off, check that the meter isn't registering anything (that's often a clue, something is on that you didn't realise) and then run the known 1kW load for a couple of hours and check that the meter bumps up a couple of units. Obviously the longer you can run the test the more accurate you're going to be.

Country side dwellers make good use of the wood supply following a storm, we all have chain saws and have piles of wood drying, is this another brilliant Dominic Cummings idea hatched in his centrally heated London flat.
Bonfires are all part of living in the country, it is a means of keeping ourselves tidy, unwanted pallets, settees, mattress's, car tyres are all disposed of in this way, often as part of a social gathering involving cider, what shall we do now?
