Call me a pessimist, but I question the sustainability of traditional French culture in the face of an approaching Islamic majority, a Socialist bent, and the insistent advance of 'progressive' subversion of values previously held. Sometimes it seems all the things I think are important are increasingly held in low regard among our indoctrinated public, characterized as racist, xenophobic, chauvinistic, and such. I anticipate future lamentations for the adoption of today's fashionable trends. I could be wrong, but that's how I see the unfolding of the next decade, after which I sense reality will intrude, with a vengeance.

Ben-I sense that you are correct in seeing the French situation only getting worse.I think that the problem will also soon become more evident in Belgium and Germany also.

The French have traditionally been robust in dealing with problems like this, think of the Algerian situation in the 1950's, they didn't turn a hair at shooting Algerians in Paris, under the orders of Maurice Papon over 200 were shot in Paris itself, (it is reported that the bodies were thrown in the Seine) in October 1961.
However they seem to have lost control of their country in recent years, it remains to be seen if they can recover the situation.

Yes, those were the borders that were done away with by Schengen and the EU, that no longer exist, that have spawned ever bigger truck parks while drivers clear paperwork from country to country...hmm. News tonight is that 5000 French trucks are stranded in N Spain by protesters on the border. What a farce.

The problem with Schengen is the unwillingness of the governments of Italy Spain and Greece to follow Hungary's lead on being serious with the borders.

Spanish authorities have closed the AP7 motorway border to France at La Jonquera as nothing can get across due to French blockade.

The Frog 'government', barely worthy of the name, has backed down to the protesting rabble and scum, and cancelled the planned fuel (and other) tax increases.

This will not only set the scene for a repeat of the same, every protest or strike will result in capitulation, but it will also result in greater consumption of fossil fuel with all the negatives that entails.

French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe is to announce on Tuesday a suspension of fuel tax increases planned for January 1 in a move to end violent "yellow vest" protests against the measure, government sources said Tuesday.

The suspension will be accompanied by other measures aimed at calming two weeks of nationwide demonstrations by the protesters, the sources said.

The demonstrations, which degenerated into street clashes and vandalism in Paris over the weekend, erupted last month over the fuel taxes which are financing France's anti-pollution efforts.

Originally spurred by the soaring cost of fuel this year, they quickly ballooned into a wider revolt over President Emmanuel Macron, accused of pursuing policies which hit low-income households particularly hard.

Halting the fuel tax increase was one of the main demands listed by "yellow vest" leaders, alongside a higher minimum wage and the return of a wealth tax on high-earners abolished last year.
That last sentence is factually incorrect. The wealth tax was not a tax on high earners as such, it was an iniquitous tax on the global assets of the 'wealthy', which kicked in at just under €2 million. Typical bloody socialists, trying to destroy wealth and remove any incentive by people to do well.

And so the Great Wheel of French Politics turns full circle again !

- France is bust;
- A new politician appears on the scene, offering to restore the glory that was France;
- With cries of joy, the population elect him as saviour-president;
- He introduces new reforms;
- Which the populace hate and hence riot, smashing up private and public property;
- And the president cancels his new reforms;
- France is bust.

French costs

#114 Post by OFSO » Tue Dec 04, 2018 7:02 pm

Rises in cost of oil, gas, and electricity all postponed this afternoon. Immediately, and I do mean instantly, barriers taken down and the first of thousands of trucks now rolling across the border in both directions.

French PM said yesterday thst the unity of France is too important to sacrifice to tax increases. Bloody hypocrite. Didn't say that when the Chamber of Deputies voted the tax increases through. Could the rioting have changed his mind ? Is The Mob in control of France ? Do bears evacuate their hirsute bowels in the woods ?

An opinion from French friends today: Macron is firstly completely out of touch with ordinary people, and secondly out of touch with anyone not living in Paris (rather a large percentage of the French population).

What might that cost compared to whatever May paid the DUP?

He has only made one smart move since he became President, which was to cancel the ISF wealth tax.

He's likely to reverse that in the face of protests from rabble who have nothing to contribute but who want to to freeload off the wealthy.

An arsehole and a prick are useful and essential body parts. I don't know what best describes him.
