Germany has a history of Turkish Gastarbeiters, who, by-and-large seem to exist peacefully (although often in enclaves).
Many have married (Germans) and settled with families and some have acquired German citizenship.
Maybe Mutti was expecting that the new wave of immigrants would be equally benign?

Where I lived, the Germans got on well with the first generation of Turks who came over. Turkish food was and is heaps better than the German crap served in Hessen. Not every flavour of Turk got on with each other, though. Many punch-ups !

The clue is in the word 'Arbeiter'. The current wave of invaders are in the majority not there to work.

The Turks in the past have been for the most part a beneficial and productive element of society in Germany.

She therefore remains in the position where she can inflict maximum damage on Germany and by extension, to the rest of Europe.

It is too late, the damage has been done. I believe that history may, in the fullness of time, judge the demented and evil of Adolf Hitler less harshly than the Merkel woman.

That may seem a bit strong and may offend people, but it's just my opinion, as invaders continue to flood in.
Oh tsk, a slight misinterpretation of the English language here it would seem, the language you advised me to study you may recall ?

Invader is used to describe people arriving in another country, generally uninvited and by means of force, as in military force. However, for all right thinking people, it's suitably emotive and therefore factually incorrect.

Had you used the word or term migrants, or asylum seekers, this would have been correct and accurate in the context of people arriving in Europe.

Ever helpful, to avoid any possible future confusion on your part.....

The French / Spanish border is currently closed at all motorway crossings by the French yellow jackets. Catalan motorways are also closed by Independencia groups protesting at the continuing imprisonment of Catalan politicians by Spain.

Catalan separatists have stormed the motorway toll booths (Catalan motorways are not free to use thanks to Madrid) removed the barriers and are allowing everyone through for free. A much better way of getting people on your side than the French blockage.

That's a bit like the Japanese way of protesting I saw go past on Farcebook recently - bus drivers on strike by driving their normal routes but not charging anyone to travel.

What a great way to gain support. I've always thought toll roads were a way to extract more out of our pockets since we already pay fuel, property and income taxes to cover the cost of such things.

In Michigan, the only tolls I know of are the Mackinac Bridge, and the Windsor Tunnel, Port Huron and Ambassador Bridges into Canada. But if you want to drive through Ohio, Pennsylvania or West Virginia on the interstate you're looking at about a $50 bill.

It seems like the everyday guy just has to pay, pay, pay, while those who contribute nothing - they don't need to drive - just take, take, take.

Can I express another gripe? There are a lot, millions, of people who have incomes mostly in cash that do not pay their fair share. My wife, a hair stylist tells me about it. I insist she keep her accounts and pay her taxes despite her resentment. Her colleagues who evade their taxes are all Democrats, this I know.

I know, I know - I'm just rambling on. Just dreaming about what a wonderful world it would be if the people would think about doing the right thing as opposed to making a buck. Some of that scenario would work for the left, but I think most of it would work for the right. I don't really care; I just want to leave a better world and have those who remember me think kindly.

And worth pointing out that just as income tax is lower in Madrid province than in Catalunia, motorways are free in Madrid province but (expensive) toll roads in Catalunia.

Catalan separatists will block all (?) roads between the north border with France and Valencia in the south on 21st December, and the frontier with France will be closed by the French on the 22nd and 23rd. That's the motorways closed for three days in total.

All major roads in/out of Barcelona closed today by protestors against Madrid holding cabinet meeting there. Was a bit chaotic with thousands of French trying to get back across the border before tomorrow when frontier roads close for the weekend.

For those bewailing the process of electing a British Prime Minister today's Spanish TV is showing the attempt to elect the socialist Sanchez as PM. First vote failed. He's reaping the consequences of trying to appease all the minority parties that have sprung up. Trying to be all things to all people does not work.

Added - I think Sanchez will be elected as Prime Minister but with an unworkable small majority.

That’s working really well in the UK :-o

The Spanish failed to take any action against the Grace 1 tanker despite it apparently suspected of being in contravention of the sanctions against Syria.

Now they're saying the current rising temperature in the Gulf is all the fault of the perfidious Brits.

Where am I NOT going on my next holiday nor any time soon?

The young waitress where we had breakfast this morning insisted in correcting my Catalan into 'Spanish'. Bloody Spanish, well I never made a secret of my feelings for the Iberian Master Race.

Second vote on Sanchez as Spanish Prime Minister. 124 in favour, 170 against, 54 abstentions from PODEM, the party he'd thought would support him. Looks like Spain is heading to yet another General Election.

Next vote also lost. Spain sets sail for fourth general election in four years. With, no doubt, same result. Colonels waiting in the wings.

Funny thing is:
Iran is not a member of the EU.
Neither is Syria.
Neither is Panama.

Brussels has got a **** cheek trying to tell non-member states who they can and cannot sell oil to or from whom they may or may not buy oil. It's none of their damn business.

Anyway, the commando assault of Grace 1 was ordered by The Empire, not Brussels.

Another stabbing in Barcelona last night. Either the third or fourth this week. City Council had an emergency sitting, said "security is out of control" (exact translation). Not enough police. Resignations from the Mossas d'Esquadra, the Catalan police force, have reached unprecedented levels.

Why the resignations?
Do the now ex-cops have other jobs to go to?
