Think that the General Election is going to be a waste of time.

Madrid has announced that 500 (or over 500) Spanish hotels will have to close after the collapse of Thomas Cook and 'special measures' will be put in place to help staff.

Well they can help them by doing what Greek government is doing: they used hotels who can make ends meet to host illegal immigrants to better their living conditions as to make the country more attractive.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Thousands of extra Spanish police on the streets ahead of the verdict on the Catalan politicians who have been in prison for two years on charges of rebellion and sedition. Madrid prosecutors asking for custodial sentences of up to 84 years per person.
Just seen your post, Woody. Streets here full of French 'tourists'. Last Saturday in Paris there were demos of eco-extinctions, Gilet Jeunes, fire department and junior doctors, all marching in protest. Have to build more streets. Anyway they are all Revolting.

Sentences totalling well over a hundred years handed out by Madrid's government-controlled Supreme Court, to the Catalan politicians.

Violent demonstrations inside Barcelona airport, hundreds involved, police clubbing protestors (and bystanders and at least one journalist) to the ground. Most Catalan motorways closed by demonstrating young and old. Huge crowds gathering in cities. TV-3 News has multiple screens running.

Figueras AP-7 motorway to Barcelona blocked by protestors. Truck/commercial vehicle parks on the border with France filling up fast.

As Basil Fawlty said to the major in the episode with the German guests to the effect of “we’re all Europeans together, don’t mention the war...”.
What will Brussels do to restore peace within the European Onion??

Re: Chaos in Spain
****-all, that's what. Next thing that will happen is the Separatistas' hot-headed members (there are a few) will turn violent, Madrid will send in the army who are raring to kill a few Catalans (I hear) and we'll have a civil war on our hands. And cue hand-wringing in Brussels and wails of " how come we never saw this coming..."

Re: Chaos in Spain
“how come we never saw this coming...?”
Like when the 52% of British voters, despite £9million of their own money spent on persuading them to stay in the USSRE, who said, ‘sod this, we’re off come what may!’. (NPI !)
And the snooty East Coast & Washington Beltway elite who had their noses put out of joint when Blessed Hillary was shown 2 fingers.
“when will they ever learn” as per the song of old?

Re: Chaos in Spain
Some politician is up on his back legs demanding martial law be invoked to control the unrest in Spain. Sticking-plaster, not a cure....

Re: Chaos in Spain
I assume that La Liga are based in Madrid.
La Liga has asked for El Clasico on 26 October to be moved from Barcelona's Nou Camp stadium to Real Madrid's Bernabeu over fears of civil unrest.
There have been days of protest in Barcelona after nine Catalan separatist leaders were jailed on Monday.
More protests are expected in the city on the day of the match.
La Liga made the request to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), citing "exceptional circumstances beyond our control".
The request has not been made to Barcelona or Real Madrid. BBC Sport has contacted both clubs for comment.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Stupid, because Catalans worship football and hence are unlikely to disrupt it.
Catalan joke: Question: "would you rather be God or manage Barça?" Answer: "managing Barça IS being God.

Tens of thousands marching along the autoroutes to Barcelona today (traffic stopped off course). Biggest rally ever seen in the city tonight.

Fires burning in Barcelona. Can't tell how much is exaggeration by tv media.
