Re: Chaos in Spain
Five Spanish men found not guilty in Barcelona yesterday of gang-raping a 14 year old child, as they got her so drunk she was unconscious and they did not have to use force. For a conviction of rape in Spain it is necessary force is used. They were however found guilty of a lesser charge. General public outrage but nothing will change.

Re: Chaos in Spain
I'm reluctant to speculate or presume so I have to ask, were the perpetrators native Catalans?

Re: Chaos in Spain
Seems not, cut from El BBC
"The five men were found guilty of abusing the girl during a drinking session known in Spanish as a botellón at a disused factory in Manresa, a town in the north-eastern region of Catalonia, in October 2016.
Prosecutors told the court the men - two Spaniards, two Cubans and one Argentine - took turns to attack the girl, who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
One of the defendants, named only as Bryan Andrés M, was said to have told each of them: "It's your turn. Fifteen minutes each and no delay."
At a previous court hearing, the girl said she remembered very little of what happened but that one of the men had been brandishing a gun.
All the defendants denied the allegations, although the DNA of one of them was found on the girl's underwear."

Re: Chaos in Spain
My vote is to get the facts, conduct a fair trial, and if found guilty, hang 'em high.

The neck is proven. I like the idea of 'by the nuts' but don''t think the desirable fatal outcome is assured by that method, though the deterrent effect is worth considering.
Re: Chaos in Spain
If you hang them high enough then when things give up under the strain the drop will do the rest.

Re: Chaos in Spain
What surprises me with Southern Europe is that when such a problem arises there is a healthy dose of outrage and no serious imitative to change the law.

Re: Chaos in Spain
You can rape a 14 year old child and get a shorter prison sentence in Spain than if you organise a refendum.

Re: Chaos in Spain
The Spanish (acting) government, socialist, has proposed introducing a new law making organising a referendum a criminal offence and - wait for it - applying it retroactively to those who organised the last one. This, it is thought, will gain them votes in next week's General Election...
At the debate I have just watched on TV a human rights lawyer said "you can't do that". The representative of the government just smiled.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Spanish political leaders are very worried at the number of voters who when asked said there were fed up with all parties and wouldn't bother to vote next Sunday. Looks like the highest abstention rate ever.
Meanwhile two additional parties have joined the bewildering mix standing for election. Next week they'll be a desperate rush to form agreements and try to get a majority: however the France 24 commentator said tonight that the prospect of yet another General Election after this one is looming into view....

Re: Chaos in Spain
I'm still forming my life view, but a newer tenet of my philosophy is that when the people began to become disinterested in the news, lose their interest in key issues, focus on entertainment, et al.; that is a key indicator of disengagement and it lethal to the sustainability of the culture.
Every society survives only by the motives, thoughts, and actions, of those who take on the burden to preserve and protect the society they have. Or if that society has turned South, throw it overboard and build a new one,

Re: Chaos in Spain
People are not disinterested in the news, they are disinterested in what is provided by the MSM and politicians purporting to be the news and key issues. And it is also they who are destroying the existing culture. There is increasingly a realisation that the system as it stands cannot be fixed from within.

Indeed. Crowds gathering in Barcelona tonight. Only two of the parties contesting the Spanish General Election have their Seats there. The others are in Madrid.

By 14:00 today, when Spanish go off for Sunday lunch, 37.8 had voted. 4% down on last April's General Election.

Preliminary result of the General Election..
The ultra-right Vox party have come out of nowhere to be the third biggest party in the Spanish parliament.

All French / Spanish road border crossings have been shut by eco idiots from midday today, including small local roads.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Correction to above - not eco terrorists but (I think) Catalan separatists. Effect still the same. Roads closed. The world is cut off from Spain.
