There is a difference in the Spanish mind between air, sea, train and road borders. The former two are considered to bring the infected foreigner; the latter two not.

Lunch today with friends aged 60 plus living on, and striving with, the Spanish economy. Sorry, 'economy'. Thought they might get assistance from the EU munificance being paid to Spain, but hopes of that vanished when Socialist PM Sanchez announced that the EU Subsidy will be used to buy electric scooters for every city, town and village. (Not a joke, by the way).

What a bunch of BArseholes. The facts are on the YouGov website and are as stated. Also noteworthy: you can make an international transit journey through France by road or rail, showing Spanish documents to the French as proof you are not stopping off in their glorious country, and Spain has no formalities or controls whatsoever at the French/Spanish border and no intent of introducing any.

No lockdown here, no siree. Just been out for the papers. Not here, printed in Madrid, isolated by land and air, trapped in snow. Then visited local town. Can't go anywhere else, law says I have to stay in municipality. But no lockdown. Then all non-essential shops are closed. But that's no lockdown. Oh and a curfew every night, 22:00-06:00. But no lockdown. Not really. Lockdown politically unthinkable, so we won't have one. Just stay where you are, don't go out at night, and only shop for food and drink. But don't say LOCKDOWN!

I still have memories of the snow that closed the M11 and trapped a load of people overnight. I was lucky that day, working in Bishops Stortford, saw the snow and said "screw it, I'm going home now" and left around 4pm. Blizzard conditions but not noticeably settling through the hills, then ran into the back of a traffic jam just south of Cambridge. Got off at J12 and took back roads, made it home in under three hours (normally a 30 minute drive). Those who left later, including my boss who lived in the next village to me, didn't get home until the following day, having spent a cold night on the M11.

300,000 doses of frozen vaccine (purchased by the EU) due to be distributed in Spain today. What a fiasco.

One hears that due to low temperatures, ice and snow, many of those vaccines won't reach their planned destinations in time and will warm up, very ironic. They are taking them to old folk's homes: roughly half of the old folk are refusing to be vaccinated. Those who do refuse are being put on a Register of refusals. Sir Humphry, where art thou ?

Should be SOP.

In the RAF if you refused a jab, then caught whatever the jab was for, it was regarded as a 'self inflicted injury'.

Daughter's surgery had some vaccines delivered so late at night they didn't have time to defrost before being required in the morning.

Another ten days lockdown announced, sorry, must not use that word as it implies the government has lost control, "restrictions" announced here. I. e. Lockdown. Takes us up to January 25. So "restrictions" must be working, eh? Er... no. All lockdowned to our municipalities, yet infections spreading like the plague. Which they are. Ho hum.

Estrasburg condemna Espanya per no investigar de manera “exhaustiva i eficaç” un cas de tortures policials.

"Strasburg (I.e. the EU) condemns Spain for not exhaustively and completely investigating the torture of political prisoners." Needless to say, the political prisoners here are elected members of the Catalan government who campaigned for independence. Still in prison or in exile.

Head of the Spanish armed forces, General Villaroya, and his senior staff sacked immediately today for jumping the vaccination queue. Also many mayors under investigation. This from yesterday:

Defence Minister Margarita Robles asked General Miguel Angel Villaroya, Chief of the Defence Staff, for explanations after El Mundo newspaper and Europa Press Agency reported he and other senior military officers had already been vaccinated.
Villaroya has not publicly confirmed whether he has been vaccinated. He could not be reached for comment on Friday.

The government here has been advised to declare a full lockdown but dare not do it because elections are coming up mid-February.

The Astra Zeneca vaccine hasn't been approved by EU regulators because the packaging isn't in the necessary EU languages including Catalan and Castilliano. So all has to be translated, etc.

Fury in Spain as Madrid cancels vaccinations. At least the priests have been vaccinated, so our mortal souls are in good care.

Catalunia had 30,000 doses earlier this week, would run out of vaccines by end of week, i.e. yesterday. Madrid withholding vaccines to ensure that those who had the first inoculation would get a second is highly suspicious considering the people who got the first - government ministers, mayors, and priests.

Asked at various private clinics in Figueras about vaccine. No, none to be had. They have to obtain vaccines via the EU, even though they are private, and the EU....... blah blah blah....
