Re: Chaos in Spain
News this morning just reported that the Spanish PM Sanchez has distanced himself from the royal cabinet. Damning by association, and Sanchez has enough problems.

If they traveled back to the UK from Gib, would they even be asked to make a declaration of quarantine address?

Re: Chaos in Spain
Just as I was getting out the kitchen wet-wipes to clean myself off, an immense hissing, puffing and clouds of spray from the taps left open (naturally) indicated air, compressed by the power of water from 200m higher up the mountain (we are at the 200m level) being forced out the pipes under the street into house and also leaks under the street before the arrival of public water at 25°c into our house. I therefore availed myself of a S, S, and a S before off to (1) get my epiretinal membrane checked and (2) launch the revolting business of buying a new phone. 32° out, not nice.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Water returned at high pressure and full of air. A pump is cavitating somewhere. Or fish farting.
And for once being deeply serious, a spouting whale was filmed by a boat the day before yesterday, about a mile offshore from the town of Roses. We are informed that with the cruise liners absent, the big fishy things are returning.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Sitting listening on wife's TV to Piers Morgan ranting about what idiots Boris & Co are. Meanwhile on my TV watching reports of ever-increasing 'cases' in Spain. Massive problems in care homes in Basque country. Young people not observing 'rules'. All this while Spanish government immersed in struggle with Catalans.

The Spanish Supreme Court has upheld the edict banning the President of Catalunia, Quim Torres, from holding office following his displaying flags indicating support for Catalan separatism. Crowds gathering in Barcelona.

Re: Chaos in Spain
The Spanish government has ordered a lockdown in the capital Madrid and surrounding areas badly affected by coronavirus after a rise in cases.
Under the new restrictions, residents will not be allowed to leave the area unless they have to make an essential journey.
However, Madrid's regional government says the lockdown is not legally valid.
Greater Madrid accounts for more than a third of the 133,604 cases diagnosed in Spain over the past two weeks.
On Wednesday, a majority of Spain's regional governments, who are in charge of healthcare, voted in favour of imposing restrictions in areas with more than 100,000 residents if they met three benchmarks - 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 35% Covid patient occupancy in intensive care units and positive results in 10% of tests.
Madrid, which has a rate of 780 infections per 100,000, already meets the criteria. However, it is not yet clear when the restrictions will be introduced.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Any criticism of incompetent British politicians is tempered by contemplation of their Spanish counterparts. It is incomprehensible that the former look to the latter for inspiration.

Doctors at the CAPs, the local public health clinics, are going on strike next week about money and conditions.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Andalucia didn't vote in favour of the proposed restrictions. Appears there will be more checks to catch people who have fled Madrid for their second home on the Costa del Sol, if caught they will be sent back.
Also the President of the Junta de Andalucia is trying to get the UK to open travel corridors to/from the provinces airports:

Interesting article in el Pais:
https://english.elpais.com/spanish_news ... ealth.html
Boris and his pals would do well to read it and take heed regarding their "efforts" in the UK.

Re: Chaos in Spain
From the point of view of inhabitants in a a small town in a northern province, the Spanish government are like chickens that just had their heads chopped off, and the Catalan government hardly better. Why impose restrictions on people arriving by air but allow hundreds of thousands of French tourists by car over the border at La Jonquera between June and October with no application of the testing that was announced as compulsory? All a joke, and people know it.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Maybe there is a mutation of Covid-1984 which, instead of causing sudden loss of sense of smell and taste, is instead causing loss of reason and logical thinking?
This might explain the irrational steps and precautions implemented by many western world leaders but for which there will never be a vaccination nor a cure.
For further research on this syndrome, contact one Professor Neil Ferguson in the UK, he'll gladly advise the Madrid administration on the best options.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Almost five million people have been affected by a new lockdown in the capital and nine surrounding towns.
People can leave their local area only to go to work, school or for medical care. Indoor and outdoor social gatherings are limited to six people. Bars and restaurants have to shut by 22:00. Along with shops, they have reduced the number of customers entering at any one time.
The measures were imposed by Spain's central government and resisted by Madrid's local authorities.
When all else fails, read the instructions.
