Portugal has a deal whereby a foreign pension can be tax free for ten years, Cyprus taxes foreign pensions at a flat 5%, Spain...

South Africa doesn't tax foreign paid pensions, they also didn't tax foreign earned pensions and annuities, but they have changed that. :(

Spain has lower rates of income tax than many countries for top earners or people with juicy pensions. Or politicians (except the Catalans in prison).

Back in the world of reality, UK tax on my pathetically small pension is 60% of what I used to pay in Spain. It is also straightforward to declare.

You may not have noticed but over the last 6 months Spain has lost thousands of Ex-Pats to Portugal, worries of new yet un-known laws and doubts over health care seem to have prompted a “mini” exodus to Spain’s neighbour.

Spain is worried, and it should be as thousands of British Ex-Pats make the short five hour trip to start a new life in neighbouring Portugal, lawyers, real estate companies and removals companies have all seen a surge in enquiries over the last six months.

I popped into our German estate agent yesterday (charming lady) to tell her we'd be away and she said she'd never known the place so deserted, nobody about. Things were bad with the EU economy on the last legs, but sensationalist reporting of The Plague has meant tourists are staying at home.

Benidorm police 'failings' leave sons unable to bury father https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-somerset-51820390

Are the Spanish Policia really that bad? He must have been in a bad state after 10 weeks missing but a femur is a big bone and difficult to lose?

Cremation usually takes place within 24/48hrs. Usually a memorial service a couple of days later. You normally don't find out a person has died until it's all over. And I know of one case, death in a Figueras hospital, where no death certificate was ever issued and we do not know to this day what killed our very close friend. Yes, really. So losing a femur is pretty trivial. Probably the dog had it.

Letting children out to play from April 27th. Some kind of relaxation for adults too, they will be allowed out for a run. Our cleaner and her older daughter who run the mountains, have been going stir-crazy, good news for them.

The idiots in Madrid have said that only foreigners in possession of a green residents registration form will be allowed back into Spain. I wonder how many who left Spain took the form with them ? This form, by the way, contains the words"not to be used for the purpose of identification" and if you have had one and cancelled your residency, you are allowed to keep it.....

Speculation in Spanish papers today that Germans, of all foreign visitors and holiday-villa owners, will be the first to be invited back to Spain after the lockdown, as the infection/death rate in Germany is so low. Whether Germans would be happy moving back to a Spain still seething with the Covid virus is another matter....

But would it be the Spanish who are seething or would it be the Germans? I think we should be told! :))

I think that right now the Spanish will take anybody's money.
The ones whose business survives that is.

Today's papers claim it's the Germans clamouring to return to Spain. I've asked German friends who themselves normally live yearly in Spain for one day under the six month limit, but so far no answer.

Whipping out his crystal balls, the Spanish Prime Minister has said 'his' country will return to the New Normality by the end of June.

The extension of the Spanish lockdown by two weeks was passed by two votes in the Spanish parliament the day before yesterday. I can't be bothered to report which party was for and which against and which tabled amendments, but what was inevitable (not to say frightening) is that none of the actions, opinions and votes were based on scientific evidence. Rather, party politics from every one of the many rag-tag parties...

It would appear so OFSO.

What is of note is that the Voz party has lodged a complaint about the Government and how it is acting against peoples rights by the State of Alarm and it's extentions, with the Constitutional Court. Basically that Court is similar in power to the British Supreme Court and whatever decision it makes cannot be appealed.

The Constitutional Court has accepted the complaint and will investigate.

In another context we used the phrase "policy-based evidence-making".

Just R/X this from our cleaner in Spain on the subject of people hugging and kissing yesterday in Barcelona:

Same up here when you walk along the seafront.. the spanish can't help themselves!!

It's the teenagers here who are the worst, but that will all change when one of them gets it!
