Chaos in Spain
Re: Chaos in Spain
Has anyone ever said masks should be worn outdoors? Not to my knowledge. This has been the WHO position since December 2020. https://www.who.int/emergencies/disease ... d-19-masks
PS BM is still around, safely returned from the dead.

Re: Chaos in Spain
It was the law here to wear a mask at all times so you would see people walking, nobody within 100m all masked up.
That law has been repealed but still see them masked up in the street.

Re: Chaos in Spain
We walked into centre of Town on Wednesday not wearing masks. Strange feeling of nakedness, having worn them in public since April 2020. Still carry them for shops etc. I'd say about 60% of people still wearing them on the streets, especially wrinklies.

A similar thing here: my idea - I might need to visit a store later in my sortie: more convenient to have the mask in normal/correct use thought out the time I am outside rather than keeping the mask somewhere clean and put it on as I enter a store. Plus it allows me not to maintain a distance and walk by another person safely.

I tend only to mask up entering the store though if the car park is busy with people I mask up out of the car.

So was it a Spanish 'mad moment', then?

Re: Chaos in Spain
1 Spain buys its natural gas from Algeria.
2 There are two pipelines: one direct and one via Morocco.
3 Spain is engaged in a diplomatic row with Morocco.
4 The Maroccans have threatened not to renew the pipeline contract and have started cancellation proceedings.
5 Spain will freeze next winter.
6 But surely Spain is connected to the European network?
7 Er.... Been discussed for years but nobody did anything about it.
8 Brrrrrrr

Do they have good facilities to accept LPG from other countries?

Re: Chaos in Spain
Not a boast just a fact: this urbanisation was the first in Spain to have piped gas, Installation under the streets carried out for free as a test. Long before I came here in 1993. Most places here now done: huge tanks sit outside the communities. No national pipe network.

Operators of the 112 emergency phone system (equivalent to the UK's 999) have gone on indefinite strike.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Read the small print department: when Spain announced payments for those on Covid furlough, most didn't read or understand that the money they received would have to be repaid when the Covid crisis was "over". Fortunately Spain made it so difficult to get payments, that most people we know are not in trouble, but the government is now insisting on repayments by lump sum with stinging interest rates. That's your friendly socialist government for you.

Round here you need to give Bank Sabadell a week's notice for an appointment before they will open the double armour-glass door and let you in. In my case, to hand back my autopiste transponder, now the motorways are all free.

Re: Chaos in Spain
Spain panicking. All gas comes from Algeria as Spanish never got round to connecting to European network. Main pipeline is routed via Morocco. Marocco is annoyed with Spain. Belatedly Spain has realised just how easy it would be to block flow. New pipeline across Med?

Re: Chaos in Spain
Wouldn't be cheaper to just connect to the European network - the routing doesn't seem very easy for constructing such a pipeline?

Re: Chaos in Spain
Big pipe lies across the bed of the med. Algeria is at least as trustworthy if not more so than Marocco. (Discuss)

Re: Chaos in Spain
The Algeria to Spain via Marocco gas pipeline due to be closed end of October to stop Morocco buying Algerian gas. Tough on Spain but there we are. Ours comes by tanker to our Urbanisation, but even that not possible now as motorways are closed by Separatistas demonstrating. Nor by railway as on strike for two weeks.
