Chaos in Belgium

#1 Post by OFSO » Mon Dec 10, 2018 8:48 am

Government collapsed when the Flemish refused to attend the UN conference in Marocco on migration.

I didn't know Belgium had a government.

Yes, but it's a now-and-then sort of thing......

The rest of the EU should be concerned, because Belgium seems to run quite happily without one.

That could be a valuable lesson.

Sometimes I think Belgium has it right. To paraphrase John Lennon - Imagine there's no government...

A bad government is much worse than no government at all.

Rather nasty demos in Brussels today against the freshly signed Migrant Convention. Resembled the protesting Gaul but without the Gauls themselves. Organised by Vlaams Belang, the right-wing party, who rather reasonably asked why Belgium had signed up to it without anyone, i.e. the public, being asked whether they agreed to open the door to world-wide migrants.

Prime Minister has submitted his resignation to the King. The consequence of acting against the will of the people who elected your Party. May, Macron, etc take note. Spain's Sanchez is due to go early next year

I still consider Belgians rather less smart than the local stray cats, but I am intrigued to understand why oh why PM decided to sigh such a suicidal for Democracy and Western Europe countries.

Even the stupidest of the stupid - a Belgian somewhere probably- would have a line of thinking which may have some valid points. I fail to see what good points such an action may have.

Cats are a damn sight smarter than most humans. I don't like them very much but they are supremely intelligent and resourceful.

"A Connecticut Yankee at the Court of King Arthur" by Mark Twain. He proposes having a Royal Family composed of cats. Quiet, intelligent, look good.
