Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
In today's Guardian article about the new president of Brazil, and what he may or may not do, the Guardian describes the current governments of Venezuela and Cuba as 'leftist'!
Just a slight understatement.

Just started reading this thread and, I can assure folks, parking is NOT free in hospitals in Scotland. It's free in some hospitals, primarily the older hospitals, and it's largely free in some private hospitals but in any of the PFI/PPP-constructed hospitals such as Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary, you pay to park. £1.40 for the first hour and then ever upwards.

Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
Just to add to the post above by Magnus - in addition to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, the other NHS PFI hospitals are at Ninewells, Dundee, and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. I don't know the starting dates but Edinburgh is on a 25 year lease and the other two are on 30 year leases. It was deemed too expensive to buy out the leases.
The parking at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary used to be dire even though it has been free since 2008. Then local businessman Sir Ian Wood donated £10m specifically for a free multistorey car park for 1000+ cars. It has been open for just over a year and patients and visitors only can use it, staff have their own car park. About 13,000 vehicles visit the hospital site each day but I've never had a problem getting parked in the multistorey car park, unlike at Ninewells Dundee which is an abomination in my view.

Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
To avoid breaching the Nats' guidelines for waiting times, NHS Lothian referred my mum to the Clydebank (private) hospital for cataract ops. Godnoze what the cost was, but I got a mileage payment for the 3 trips (no, she only has two eyes, but one visit was for assessment), and the parking was free.
Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
We have discussed the shortfalls in journalistic standards, truthfulness, professionalism and objectivity in the Guardian articles, also we have come to the conclusion that the political journalists produce shoddy, badly written and completely bias articles.
It comes as no surprise when we find them producing this highly amusing article, presumably written with a straight face, accusing the BBC of racism because the audience of question time could not conceal their mirth at the rubbish being spouted by Miss Diane.
This is what Labour wish to have as Home Secretary in the event they win the next election.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... ing-racismDiane Abbott has accused BBC Question Time of legitimising racist abuse after claims that the shadow home secretary was singled out before and during Thursday night’s episode of the political discussion programme.
“The media must stop legitimising mistreatment, bias and abuse against Ms Abbott as a black woman in public life. The BBC should be ashamed that their programming is complicit in such behaviour.”
This is what Labour wish to have as Home Secretary in the event they win the next election.
Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
I laughed my head off when I read about the bias accusations against the BBC over 'Question Time'. After so many years of anyone suspected of being vaguely right of centre being interrupted and heckled by Dimbleby and left wingers on the panel, I hoped that Fiona Bruce might bring a bit of balance into the programme. This she appears to have done but she must learn that you cannot interrupt anyone from the left of centre or try to bring a little humour to the occasion and expect to get away with it, especially if the person on the receiving end is not white. Ms Abbott cannot see that she is just not respected, not because of the colour of her skin but because she is just not very well respected. The immediate reaction from her and the perpetually outraged folk in 'Momentum' is to cry "Racism"! It's not racism Ms Abbott - a lot of people just think you're incompetent.

She's in good company in parliament then, as pretty much the whole of the government is as well as Corbyn and his lot.

The Bruce's eyebrows remind me of those of a childhood hero:
Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
I'm just watching Thursday's QT, the one in which Abbott accused them of racism.
For which of the following reasons is Abbott called the 'Shadow' Home Secretary :
Because she's black?
Because she's a mere shadow of what a politician should be?
Because they did a scan of her head and where they expected to find a brain there was just a shadow?
Other suggestions welcome.

Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
The Guardian isn't biased; it is simply a socialist paper pontificating a socialist agenda.

Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
Perhaps it's just because she's a brainless moron who has nothing of value to say. Once someone plays the race card, it proves that they have no valid argument and they should be sidelined forthwith.Diane Abbott accuses Question Time of 'whipping up a RACIST and sexist atmosphere'.
Diane Abbott said she had been 'jeered at and interrupted more times than any other panellist' on the flagship BBC programme. During the programme she clashed with panellist Isabel Oakeshott about Labour's standing in the polls.
Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
The Guardian can't even get the simplest and most straight forward of facts right, in their obituary to Winsor Davis they stated that he was born in Bridgend in Wales, in fact he was born in Canning Town and didn't move to Wales until he was aged nine.
How can a national newspaper continue in business like this, and how can any reader believe anything that is printed in it. Absolute shoddy reporting indeed.

Well coming from a self confessed racist, perhaps when people do "play the race card " they have valid reasons for doing so.....as In racial slurs from racists perhaps ?Capetonian wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 12:49 pmPerhaps it's just because she's a brainless moron who has nothing of value to say. Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
Thinking back to a thread posted recently about blacks being less intelligent than other human species, as I watch Diane Abbott's ignorant blathering, I am tempted to retract my statement that there is no evidence for this. She probably is that evidence.

The Guardian is financed by a large Trust Fund, it doesn't 'do business' by any normal financial test.om15 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 1:04 pmThe Guardian can't even get the simplest and most straight forward of facts right, in their obituary to Winsor Davis they stated that he was born in Bridgend in Wales, in fact he was born in Canning Town and didn't move to Wales until he was aged nine.

I have said this before.
It has the journalistic standards of a broadsheet and the political content and view of the gutterpress.

Why does the Guarniad persistently beg for money when you read it online?
Regarding Dianne, who actually votes for her?

Re: Is the Guardian a biased rag?
Thousands of brain-dead feckwits who read the Gruinad and are so enmeshed in socialism that they would quite happily vote for a box of dead frogs if they called themselves Labour. This is an affliction chiefly affecting those emanating from Manchester who are still fighting the class war of the 1950s; those who have an affinity for Chardonnay and have been to university and studied humanities or arts; and obviously those living in Abbot’s constituency (who are probably composed of all the above).
