Krystal, I'm somewhat surprised at your bringing up 1982, given the general gist of your historical posts.

That was Maggie's finest hour, as she spanked Argentina's attempted Falklands grab en route to a resounding vote of British confidence in 1983, all the while forming the partnership with Reagan that ultimately won the Cold War, defusing the nuclear threat of MAD which continues to pay dividends of safety and security for billions of people to this day.

Is there any chance you might come around to reason regarding President Trump as well? He's been busy stamping out geopolitical fires, too.

Priceless !

Have you ever read any of my posts ?...if so, you would be aware of the loathing and contempt I hold Thatcher, and her acolytes, in and always will. She inflicted untold misery on the UK and her legacy remains undiminished to this day.

A lot of people were needlessly killed or maimed in the name of "the realm " and it could have all been avoided.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/p ... 44805.html

Reagan ?.....a fourth rate ham actor, and that's being generous, who was overawed by her. Some bloke called Gorbachev also had a hand in matters by the way. But relax because Trump wants to start the whole business and building up nukes all over again.....when he's finished building a wall

And my reasoning as to Trump is shared by several million others across the globe, and the sane population of America, who will be as pleased to see the back of him as the rest of the world...sooner rather than later in case you were wondering.

My post about Spain was sardonic given the warship may just have something to do posturing and with forthcoming elections in the country, but in your Star spangled banner eyes, sardonic commentary was never really going to register ..now was it.

I rarely bother, not worth the effort of trying to decipher your pompous pseudo intellectual claptrap which ultimately means nothing.

That says more about you than it does about those who admire and respect the lady and her legacy.
You clearly aren't aware of the loathing and contempt I hold for people of your ilk and political persuasion.

Awww, how sweet ! . So nice to read you've embraced introspection with such candid fervour.....well done !

I think I have a vague inkling I may not be getting a birthday greeting.....September by the way...or a Christmas one either.

Those who "admire and respect " the unlamented deceased generally have to same unpalatable and repugnant, vindictive, bullying, autocratic traits as she did...kindred spirits springs to mind.

One of the nicest assessments of my intellectual prowess I've ever received. I'm not worthy, but thanks all the same. I do read your posts, and usually find myself in total disagreement, but I do respect your ability to present your views articulately, rather than descend into the trenches of direct insult and discrediting that so many of your fellow thinkers do.

I feel that you and I could carry on an interesting discussion over a beer or scotch, though I suspect you might not want such an engagement.

I restate my case that PM Thatcher restored the vitality of the UK economy and was key to winning the Cold War, which returned benefits to literally hundreds of million of people around the world. That you can't see that, to me, is a reflection on you, as it's fairly clear to most impartial historians and the people whose lives were affected.

Finally, I think you might be surprised at how many around the world hold the highest regard for both Reagan and Thatcher. People like me. By the way, what do you think about Churchill? He is also a saint in my view.

Ben, don't even bother trying to have an adult debate with the Marxist. There is no compromise in his thoughts (sorry, whatever the Guardian has told him to think). Anyone who does not conform to the Marxist view is to be demonised no matter what good they have done. Marxism brooks no dissent - you believe totally in it and hate all who do not or you are not a good little Marxist. There is no other viewpoint as one-eyed and closed as that espoused by this vile monstrosity. You are utterly wasting your breath in trying to have a coherent conversation with any of this ilk.

Ah, Nick. You were doing so well in your efforts to enter the Guiness Book of Records for including "Marx " in your posts, but, sadly, it appears the entry is slipping from your grasp......only four mentions this time !

However, and I'm offering this advice with your best interests at heart you understand, given your obsession with Marxism and, to compound your paranoia further should a Labour Gov't dedicated to imposing Marxist ideologies on the UK electorate emerge, you could do yourself a favour.

Obviously, heretics will find themselves transported to the waste lands and salt mines of the UK to become re-educated and productively employed for the benefit of the State....comrade !.....so, if you can find your way to Euston, preferably without an adult, book a seat to Winsford ( I suggest an open return, albeit the railways will be nationalised by the time you do return, change at Crewe ) and then amble down to the salt mine.....voluntary, rather then enforced, attendance may well count in your favour for rehabilitation.

I have to go now as it's time for choir practice with our dog.....I'm training her to bark "The Red Flag " in harmony with my morning rendition and, as she's a very intelligent dog, she's becoming very proficient I can tell you !....."The Internationale " will be a doddle for her !

Indeed, also people like, Alice Weidel, leader of Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party you 2 would get along like a vietnamese village on fire.

It was an informative thread, till Benny decided to use it as a platform to say how great he is (all heard before many times)

You see yet again that the Marxist can only answer with an incoherent diatribe. My great error is in disagreeing with his vile ideology thus I must be belittled and demonised. What a good little Marxist he is. The Great Leader will be very proud of you, Komrade.

Well......Two weeks ago the coilition parties deserted the governing Socialists, leaving them unable to pass the 2019 Budget, mandatory in Spanish law. The Socialists thus called a General Election for April 27. Until then, no government.

The biggest problem after the last election in 2018 was too many small parties, meaning none of the big parties could get a majority. So the entrance of the ultra-right, shoot all the immigrants, take away women's rights, and kill Catalans VOX Party who are expected to win 20 seats, is a disaster in the making.

Meanwhile unemployment soars, taxes increase, medical and social budgets are cut, and if you want to hear Catalan spoken in public go to Berlin or London.

The Catalan opposition party members, having been kept in prison with no bail since October 2017, are in Madrid, on trial for 'rebellion' and 'sedition', (i.e. organising a referendum) with the State Prosecutor demanding custodial sentences of up to 30 years. The VOX Party is bringing a private prosecution for the same charges demanding 70 years custodial sentences.

General Strike in Catalunia today. North/South AP-7 motorway cut at several points including the border with France. No trains or buses or taxis. Protest is against political show-trial of Catalan politicians in Madrid.

Spanish quoted as saying strike is only in Catalunia and unimportant, forgetting that between 25% and 30% of Spain's GDP comes from Catalunia.

Reagan ?.....a fourth rate ham actor, and that's being generous,
But he and Maggie did change the world. They ended the Soviet Union and won the Cold War, which led to the relative calm and release from the immediate threat of mutual nuclear annihilation we have enjoyed for a generation. That was no small feat.

The Soviet Union didn't collapse because of external pressures. Nor did the Cold War end with the collapse of the Soviet Union. It ended because of a negotiated settlement that was potentially to the benefit of both sides. Communist rule ended because Mikhail Gorbachev maneuvered it out of exclusive power. It was Gorbachev who ended Communist rule. He did it in the Soviet Union's own interest. The people who present it as a victory of one country over another are incorrect, but it was the victory of one idea over another. This idea that somehow the U.S. beat the Soviet Union has led to failed policies from Washington but also misunderstandings from other countries, particularly the Russians.

Back to Spain. Or rather NOT back to Spain as frontier with France closed today by Gillette Jeunes on French side. Unlike two days ago when frontier with France closed by Separatistas on Spanish side. Where would we be without the EU's open frontier policy ?

Huge demos in Madrid today as Catalans protested suppression of rights, lack of democracy, bias in supposedly independent Spanish courts, corruption.....all went off peacefully of course.
