Especially after the Italian debacle at the beginning.
They get flak from people who say it enough notice and flak from those who say why delay. Do it immediately, you'll only piss off half the people.

Hogmanay
Had to look it up.
Thank DoG for The Google MachineTM and Wikipedia.
Looks like a better way to bring in the New Year.
Especially liked the flaming balls.

Alas, we never did civilise the Western tribes. They are forever condemned to damnation. Fukkem.
Hogmanay is how we who have have only ten toes (twelve, in the case of Fifers) count years and centuries.
Quite an important drumbeat, for so many of us.
How else would we know when to space time between the drinking of drams? We'd have to make mechanical clocks, fer fuxake.

The Stonehaven Fireballs, quite an event in my local town some 8 miles away. Sadly cancelled for the second year running because of Covid.
The helicopter pilots' mantra: If it hasn't gone wrong then it's just about to...

Looks like a good time.
The whirling of the balls looks like quire the workout.
I'm sure a little antifreeze helps augment the heat from the balls.
Sad to hear of the cancellation but I'm sure you could gather a few friends and neighbors to have a go in someone's back yard.

Re: Chaos in Scotland.
Wee Jimmy may cancel Princes Street and the Paki mayor may cancel Trafalgar Square but will they be able to stop the crowds?
King Canute probably had more success.

Re: Chaos in Scotland.
The leftie looney Drakeford has said people can go to pubs but will be fined sixty quid for going to work, these fines will be administered at the discretion of individual police officers. Given that Police incompetence and corruption rivals that of the devolved administrations I can see fury and chaos at this decision.

Fake news.but will be fined sixty quid for going to work
Re: Chaos in Scotland.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-59741680Fines will be handed out to employees in Wales who go to work when they could work from home.
From Monday, workers will receive a £60 fixed penalty notice and companies hit with fines of £1,000 every time they break the rule.
Until now there has just been guidance encouraging home working.
The union GMB said it would affect "the poorest, most vulnerable workers" while the TUC said it was "at best naïve" to think responsibility is shared.
"Additional measures have been introduced to limit the spread of the virus and protect public health," said a Welsh government spokesman.
Should I be working from home now?
Adapt for home working, boss says
"Further to our long-standing advice for people to work from home wherever possible, from Monday this will now be a legal requirement to work from home unless there is a reasonable excuse not to.
