Nicola Sturgeon must be suspended from the SNP after she was arrested by police investigating the party’s finances, Humza Yousaf, Scotland’s First Minister, has been told.

Police announced on Sunday that the former first minister had been taken into custody for questioning “as a suspect” as part of an inquiry into an alleged missing £600,000 in donations to the party for a second independence referendum that never happened.

After being interviewed by detectives for seven hours, she was later released without charge and proclaimed her innocence in a statement shortly afterwards.

In the wake of her arrest, MPs from the SNP and Scottish Conservatives called for her to be suspended from the party she ran for nine years.

Craig Hoy, the Scottish Tory chairman, said: “The SNP continue to be engulfed in murkiness and chaos. Humza Yousaf must now show some leadership and suspend his predecessor from the SNP.”

Following her release at 5.24pm on Sunday, Ms Sturgeon said in a statement posted on Twitter that she had found her arrest by officers as part of Operation Branchform “both a shock and deeply distressing”, as she was “certain I have committed no offence”.

She insisted that “I know beyond doubt” that she had not broken the law and argued that “I would never do anything to harm either the SNP or the country”.

At this point two tiny things dangling in Humza's underpants disappear entirely!

I am severely traumatised at the news of the arrest and subsequent release of Wee Krankie.

It would seem the law enforcement process puts paid to her hopes of riding out of the opened gates of Traquair House after her coronation as the Queen of Scotland.

And of course she’d have to prove she was a Stuart or perform some sort of marriage of convenience in an attempt to qualify, but the dreams of exiting those gates must be now completely dashed.

I was idly speculating as to whether she would be astride a white charger for the hoped for photo-op, then wondered if it would be a black charger to conform to the Diversity, Inclusion and Equity fad, then realised that being pictured astride a black charger might result in an accusation of an ostentatious display of white supremacy.......

Even a brown charger might attract criticism about her poking fun at ‘princess’ Nutmeg in California, so I was considering maybe just a pedal cycle instead which would comply with Net Zero Climate Emergency protocols.

Exhausted with examining these possibilities, I now need to find a cool darkened* room for a lie down to await the verdict of the Supreme Leader himself, His Highness Humza Youseless, he of the vacant underpants, as to whether she remains in post or gets the axe.

* Are we permitted to still use this adjective or has that gone onto the banned list as well?
