Scottish law changes from February next year in that ALL homes have to have interlinked smoke alarms fitted. The bare minimum is one smoke alarm installed in the room most frequently used for general daytime living purposes, one smoke alarm in every circulation space on each storey, such as hallways and landings and one heat alarm installed in every kitchen. In addition a carbon monoxide detector is also required if there is a carbon fuelled appliance but this does not have to be linked to the other alarms.

Average cost is £220 if installed by the householder. For homeowners, compliance will also form part of any Home Report when they come to sell their home, plus I'm sure insurance companies will not pay up on home insurance if there is a fire and the law hasn't been complied with. I have two linked mains powered smoke alarms which will now be redundant and have to be replaced by lithium battery powered alarms linked by a radio frequency. Too difficult and expensive to extend the mains wiring.

Scottish comedian Janey Godley - who was described by Sturgeon as her 'alter ego' - is dropped from government Covid TV ads in race row over ‘offensive’ tweets

Jane Godley, 60, had been paid an estimated £12,000 for the Covid campaign
The comic - once described by Nicola Sturgeon as her alter ego - has hit storm
Historic tweets from her sparked outrage amid accusations of racist content

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... l#comments

A Scottish government Covid health campaign fronted by a comedian once described by Nicola Sturgeon as her 'alter ego' has been cancelled - after historic tweets from the comic were branded offensive and racist.

Janey Godley, who became widely known in Scotland after creating videos overdubbing Sturgeon's press conferences, referred to Destiny's Child star Kelly Rowland in one post as 'the black horse from USA'.

Ms Godley, 60, also said of rapper 50 Cent 'If it wasn't for the fact he is a big black man talking about his d**k I wouldn't have known he was a rapper?'

She had already apologised for other messages on her Twitter feed but added a new apology last night , admitting that comments have 'terrible, horrific undertones'. She also made her Twitter feed private.

The Scottish government yesterday axed its ‘stop the spike’ video advert campaign which urges people to wear a mask and practice social distancing for which Ms Godley was paid £12,000. She has pledged to give it all to charity.

A Scottish Government spokesman confirmed: ‘Trust in our public health messages at this time is paramount. We have therefore taken the decision to withdraw any further campaign material in which Ms Godley features.’

Just a bit of Glasgwegian banter but Janey will have learned that when you sup with the devil...

Obviously a result of 'woke' cancellation whereby Puritan standards are applied to 'humour' or anything committed to social media in the past.

She was very funny, though.

Twelve thousand quid of easily printed money from Westminster. She's worth it.

Most Scots do not want an early referendum, as support for independence slides

With Scotland embroiled in a treatment crisis, three-quarters of independence supporters said the pandemic should be the priority

By Simon Johnson, Scottish Political Editor 11 September 2021 • 5:36pm

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/20 ... ce-slides/

Barely one in four Scots want an early independence referendum and even a majority of SNP voters oppose the move, according to an opinion poll that prompted claims Nicola Sturgeon is "out of touch".

The survey, published to coincide with this weekend's SNP conference, found backing for another separation vote being staged this year or next has fallen since February from 35 per cent to 27 per cent.

Only 41 per cent of SNP voters and half of those who would vote for independence said a referendum should be staged by the end of 2022.

Around four in five (79 per cent) Scots agreed that: “It is more important that Scottish politicians focus on tackling coronavirus than on constitutional issues right now”, compared to just 21 per cent who said the opposite.

With Scotland's NHS embroiled in a treatment crisis, even three-quarters of independence supporters said the pandemic should be the top priority.

In a major blow for Ms Sturgeon, the poll also found support for independence has tumbled by eight points since February to 48 per cent, with backing for the Union at 52 per cent.

One thing the pint sized fuhrerin will have learnt from the EU masters whose arses she'd love to kiss :-* (because they are not English ones), is that these referendums are not worth worrying about. If they don't give you the result you want you just ignore them and keep re-educating the 'lumpenproletariat' until you get the desired result.

Nicola Sturgeon 'getting special treatment from EU' to help Scotland's independence push

Brussels is hostile to Catalan independence but complicit with the SNP, minister claims
By James Badcock Madrid 11 September 2021 • 6:00pm

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/ ... scotlands/

The European Union is helping the Scottish independence movement by giving Nicola Sturgeon special treatment, the foreign minister of Spain's separatist Catalonia region said.

Catalonia’s regional government accused Brussels of having “double standards” because it is deaf to the breakaway Spanish region’s calls for independence and offered it no support after its illegal referendum in 2017.

The European Commission has repeatedly warned that Catalonia would leave the EU as well as Spain if it broke away from Madrid. It would only be able to rejoin the bloc after a lengthy accession process, which would require Spanish support.

Victòria Alsina, the foreign minister, said that if Scotland voted for independence and then rejoined the EU, the same should be offered to Catalonia.

“What goes for Scotland must also go for Catalonia. If Europe is favourable towards Scotland having a referendum, it has to look favourably on Catalonia having a referendum,” Ms Alsina told The Telegraph.

“If Scotland were to vote in favour of independence and entered as a new member, this mechanism would have to be applied to Catalonia as well,” she added.

Describing the EU’s approach to the Catalan government as “cold”, Ms Alsina said there was a stark contrast with the “complicity” offered to Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon by leading European officials.

I don't know how much of this 'front page' will get through the paywall but a glance seems to indicate that the independence argument is the only thing happening in Scotland at the moment. A very successful diversion from the real problems caused by your hopeless administration Nicola - health, education, economy etc etc.

As a Scottish resident, voter and taxpayer, I'd like to know why the 6 worst districts for Covid infection in the whole of Europe (including Eastern Europe and the Levant) are all in Scotland.

Note that does not mean sixth worst. All six of the worst are in Scotland.

Look at the runners up:

They're in Chechnya; Turkey; Estonia; Palestine; Montenegro.

WTF? ~X(

I guess the Chechens are blaming it on Russia or Georgia. I guess the Turks are blaming it on Austria and Hungary. The Montenegrans blaming on the pesky ancient Greeks. The Yehudis blaming it on the Iranians. And so on it goes.

I blame the sheer awfulness of the Scowegian gumment on dickheads like me who voted Alex Salmond in as first Minister in 2007.

Boris pulled a flanker on her with the vaccine 'passport' thing.

He knows her pattern of behaviour; he confides his next Covid move to her; she then rushes to go on telly to announce her next move before he goes public so that she can pretend to be ahead of the game.

He's ambushed her by telling her that he's minded to introduce a requirement for vaccination ID for nighclubs. She duly announces that Scotland will do so next month. He then announces that he had made no such decision. She's left looking like a very silly fanny. Being outwitted by Boris is like being savaged by a dead sheep.

She failed to anticipate that the first question from the licenced trade was going to ask what her definition of a 'nightclub' actually is. She still hasn't got an answer for that one. With the nights drawing in, just what does 'night' mean in licenced premises which have a dance floor? 'Clubs' have members. If a place doesn't require membership for admittance, is it a club at all?

Yet again, she's up ShitCreek without a shovel.

Yep.
She's dropped another clanger!

I was mulling over the same thing- What's a nightclub.

For example the Horseshoe bar in Central Glasgow is a bar, but a huge one.
They have premises upstairs though, that probably can be classified as a Night Club, but a rough one!

Impossible to say which is what.

But anyway, as a double jab doesn't stop you getting the bug, or passing it on- what's the point of the vaccination passports?

They really mean only that you'll probably not die if you get it- but someone you pass it on to, in The Horseshoe may well Croak it.
