The point is that Cruise is 5ft 7in (in heels?)
In stilettos!
A USN RIO I knew on exchange was at Miramar during the filming of Top Gun. Cruise stood on an orange box. McGillis was barefoot most of the time. Cruise is such an amazing man that McGillis has become a lesbian (true!).

Alan Ladd
Height
Most biographical sources speculate on Ladd's height, which legend contends was slight. Reports of his height vary from 5 ft 5 in to 5 ft 9 in (1.65 m – 1.75 m), with 5 ft 6 in (1.68 m) being the most generally accepted today. His U.S. Army enlistment record, however, indicates a height of 5 ft 7 in.
Ladd and Veronica Lake became a particularly popular pairing because, at 4 ft 11 in, she was one of the few Hollywood actresses substantially shorter than he was. In his memoirs, actor/producer John Houseman wrote of Ladd: "Since he himself was extremely short, he had only one standard by which he judged his fellow players: their height.” To compensate for Ladd's height, during the filming of Boy on a Dolphin, co-starring the 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m) Sophia Loren, the cinematographer used special low stands to light Ladd and the crew built a ramp system of heavy planks to enable the two actors to stand at equal eye level.[128] In outdoor scenes, trenches were dug for Loren to stand in. For the film Saskatchewan, director Raoul Walsh had a six-inch hole dug for 6 ft 0 in (1.82 m) co-star Hugh O'Brian to stand in, while using the excavated dirt to build a mound for Ladd to stand on, thereby overcoming the disparity in height.

So, the BBC are attacking Labour with a Panorama expose?
There can only be one winner...the rest of us

Imagine that on a Harley coming on to Tom Cruise. At least he aged better.

Somehow I can't see Goose's wife telling Kelly right now that Maverick is "100% prarm tarm in lerve with yoo!"
The best line from that movie was "flying a cargo plane full of rubber ***** out of Hong Kong". I knew blokes at the time who did exactly that!
How would any of us fare after such traumatic events following all the adulation having been a screen star?

The only realistic lines from that movie are from one of the ACT scenes
Mav: "Where'd he go?"
Goose: "Where'd who go?"

Fox, massive thread drift but brings to mind a massive ACMI set piece with 4 F3 protecting an AWACs from 16xF16.
The exercise was 'successful ' in that the AWACs survived. Only 3 missiles were fired. Two by one F3 and one by another. One aircraft was deemed killed. No F16 was engaged or fired a missile.
The single F3 missile was fired at the other F3 that engaged him.

Oh dear.
I had a lot of weak points, but I never shot blue-on-blue. Mind you, HVAA defence was always a rolling goat f#ck. The Rooskies planned to send 108 a/c for real IIRC. Once did a silent procedures 16 ship, as one of several 16 ships, vs USAFE once on Elder Forest, over 300 of them turned up. That was messy; we didn't even land back at home plate. I ended up taxi-ing into a 5 Sqn HAS at Coningsby. The guy I joined up with who who'd led me in asked "Who the f#ck are you?" as we strolled up. "My wingman went u/s. We weren't going to hang around on our own up there". He paused. "OK, fair enough. I'd do that for real, too".

All complaints about British politics, London, UK,. etc., are silenced instantly after a couple of hours in Paris. An absolute shower.

We do not have the frog point of view, characterised by an abiding belief in the Glory of France on the national level but behaving in a piggish and utterly selfish way as an individual.
