THE BBC covered up a Boris Johnson outburst in which he accused the French of being 'turds' over Brexit.

The BBC used to be run in two parts:
The World Service was owned by the Foreign Office and the domestic bit was owned by the Home Office. There were rigid turf borders between the two Ministries.

Now it is a single unity, owned jointly by both Ministries. That gives the FCO great clout over the news management of the entire BBC which they never had before.

Hadn't you noticed?

One of the areas that displayed the highest levels of residue was in the toilets outside of the Strangers Bar, which is only accessible to members of parliament and high ranking public officials.

The Strangers Bar - or, as it is locally known, Gove's Grotto.

What's been exposed is that the people who make our laws, are arseholes.

Things will not be the same for quite a while.

Our nation has turned into a home for immigrants, as opposed to a home for its people- no problem of course, if you are an idiot.

But you did collectively vote them in, didn't you?

Ben, Hobson's choice. They only need one vote more than the other fellow. As for party, is there a difference?

I think you would find that MPs for either party may be friends away from the public eye.

Wouldn't it be nice if somehow our elections would elevate intellects, statesmen/stateswomen, with a moral compass, wisdom, incorruptible, all the good things?

I believe the miracle of the US is that when it was founded and the Constitution put together such a group miraculously came together in one place. Today, it seems sometimes, we have wandered far from that benchmark, but their legacy is still there to be rediscovered.

Worthy of Prince Philip:
Boris Johnson has refused to apologise for his previous articles referring to black people as "piccaninnies" with "watermelon smiles" and calling gay people "bumboys," claiming his comments were "wholly satirical."

Boris Johnson could run stark naked down Horseguards Parade waving his Tory Blue willy in the air while shouting obscenities about Michael Gove and he would still get elected next month. More a comment about the opposition, of course, than about his qualities.
Wait until he gets to Brussels and has to deal with all the new 'democratically elected' ladies in position of power. Woah !

The German 'Defence Minister' is now the head of the European Commission.

You really can't make this up!

That must be the Minister who kept the German armed forces in such a high state of readiness for the last few years? A well deserved reward for such 'beyond the call of duty' service to her country and NATO.

No, she was found guilty and no further action, from wiki;

On 3 August 2011, a French court ordered an investigation into Lagarde's role in a €403 million arbitration deal in favour of businessman Bernard Tapie.[72] On 20 March 2013, Lagarde's apartment in Paris was raided by French police as part of the investigation.[73] On 24 May 2013, after two days of questioning at the Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR), Lagarde was assigned the status of "assisted witness", meaning that she was not herself under investigation in the affair.[74] According to a press report from June 2013, Lagarde was described by Stéphane Richard, the CEO of France Telecom (a former aide to Lagarde when she was Finance Minister), who was himself put under formal investigation in the case, as having been fully briefed before approving the arbitration process which benefitted Bernard Tapie.[75][76] Subsequently, in August 2014 the CJR announced that it had formally approved a negligence investigation into Lagarde's role in the arbitration of the Tapie case.[77] On 17 December 2015, the CJR ordered Lagarde to stand trial before it for alleged negligence in handling the Tapie arbitration approval.[78][79][80] In December 2016, the court found Lagarde guilty of negligence, but declined to impose a penalty.[81]

No problem. Being a convicted embezzler didn't stand in the way of the drunkard Jean Claude being President of the EU Commission (although it stopped him being elected to the board of my bank in the Grand Duchy). Having some form of conviction seems mandatory for holding high office in the EU.

I am not sure about Christine Lagarde, she seems to have other activities apart from her 'day job'.

This is a copy of a comment from the Daily Telegraph but illustrates the calibre of Drunker's replacement, that I referred to earlier. A relative who lives in Germany (ex-UK Forces) is nearly driven to apoplexy on this subject!

Let us take look at the state of readiness of some of Germany's defences after her many years as Defence Minister:

"Germany’s Entire Submarine Fleet Is Out of Commission

Virtually everything that could go wrong—from accidents a lack of cash—has set Berlin’s U-boat fleet adrift."

https://www.popularmechanics.com/milita ... ommission/

Just think, the Kriegsmarine hasn't got a single serviceable U-boat!

How sad is that?

Part Two because of URL limit:

Then there's the Luftwaffe:

"German Tornado fleet grounded due to ‘too much bio-diesel’ in fuel"

https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/german- ... esel-fuel/

I'm told the Typhoons have the same problem.

As for the Wehrmacht, drilling with broomsticks instead of rifles:

"Underequipped German army ever less ready for battle, damning report concludes."

https://www.thelocal.de/20180220/undere ... -concludes

And this:

"German army forced to lay down weapons due to 'overtime limits'

German soldiers taking part in a four-week Nato exercise in Norway earlier this year had to leave after just 12 days because they had gone over their overtime limits, it has emerged."

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/0 ... me-limits/

Yes, very impressive!

From a historical perspective, it's not all bad that Germany's military capacity is on its back. NATO concerns and demands upon it by the Trump administration notwithstanding, a pacified and enfeebled Europe is not necessarily a bad thing.

I think the US can handle Russia and Iran. China is the gorilla in the room.

The EU seems to talk about having its own 'army' from time to time, but nothing further happens. Would 27 (or 28, cough, splutter) members be able to agree on the matter anyway? If they are reluctant to contribute their fair shares to NATO I can't see how they would be able to organise a combined navy, army or air force.

Germany doesn't need to bother much with its armed forces, as they have the excuse of not wanting to appear aggressive these days and can dominate Europe financially instead.

When I had German relatives, one young man hurt his ankle playing football during the first month of conscription. The Bundeswehr sent him home for the remaining 17 months on full pay, because they had had so many successful claims for injuries sustained during conscription and were paying disability pensions for life to so many conscripts. His father Hans, who had fought the Russians at Stalingrad, was disgusted with the attitude of the Army authorities.
