The BBC don't recognise irony or hypocrisy.

Their news report on the European hot weather featured their global warmer-in-chief -Justin Rowlatt - including some scientist claiming that all global warming was down to the actions of humans - reporting live from The Algarve. He seems to have overlooked his contribution by flying there in a fossil-fuelled aircraft chucking out loads of CO2.

I blame Brexit.

If we were still in the EU the overall EU temperature would be much colder.

Statistically you are correct. Whether I'd feel any cooler here in Spain is another matter

https://www.gbnews.com/celebrity/bbc-un ... emy-paxman

The Guardian wrote, "Amol Rajan, (...) is a declared republican who once branded the royal family as 'absurd' and the media as a 'propaganda outlet' for the monarchy."[38] In 2021, he publicly apologised for comments made in a 2012 article he wrote for The Independent, in which he described Prince Philip as a "racist buffoon" and Prince Charles (now Charles III) as "scientifically illiterate", and for an open letter he sent to Prince William and his wife Catherine while the two were expecting their first child, in which he described their public role as a "total fraud", the Queen's Diamond Jubilee as a "celebration of mediocrity", and the royal family as a clan "unusually full of fools".[39]
In November 2021, the BBC broadcast The Princes and the Press, a two-part documentary presented by Rajan that explored the relationship between the royal family and the media.[40] He also narrated the BBC podcast Harry, Meghan and the Media, which was released in January 2022.[41][42]

However, he seems happy enough to live here and claim his wedge from the BBC every month.

No doubt GBNews is in its element in reporting this, but I suppose it's no coincidence that he has taken over University Challenge and Clive Myrie is now doing Mastermind...

Why is Paxman leaving University Challenge?
The 73-year-old former Newsnight presenter is bowing out from the show after revealing he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Monday's show, this season's final between the universities of Durham and Bristol, will be Paxman's 967th and last appearance on the show.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

There’s currently just under 40,000 viewers of the Test Match Special web page, just checking if it’s raining in Manchester, there’s some TV channels that would love to have that many viewers!

Increased to 68,000 at 11.00 BST
When all else fails, read the instructions.

BBC apologizes for reporter’s ‘inappropriate’ question to Morocco women’s team captain

https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/24/football ... index.html

The BBC has apologized for an “inappropriate” question one of its reporters asked the captain of the Morocco women’s national team.

At a media conference ahead of Morocco’s Women’s World Cup opener against Germany, a reporter from the British news organization’s World Service asked Ghizlane Chebbak: “In Morocco, it’s illegal to have a gay relationship. Do you have any gay players in your squad and what’s life like for them in Morocco?”

Channel Seven commentator criticized for 'motherhood' comment about Australia star Katrina Gorry during Women's World Cup match
The press conference moderator interjected, saying: “Sorry, this is a very political question, so we’ll just stick to questions relating to football.”

“No, it’s not political,” the journalist replied. “It’s about people, it’s got nothing to do with politics. Please let her answer the question.”

A BBC spokesperson told CNN: “We recognise that the question was inappropriate. We had no intention to cause any harm or distress.”

There was then one more question before the press conference was ended.

According to Human Rights Watch, “Moroccan law also criminalizes what it refers to as acts of ‘sexual deviancy’ between members of the same sex. Article 489 of the penal code punishes same-sex relations with prison terms of up to three years and fines of up to 1,000 dirhams ($91).”

Morocco was beaten 6-0 by Germany in its opening match of the 2023 Women's World Cup.

The Athletic’s Steph Yang, who was in the room, said that “some members of the Moroccan media were audibly dismayed by the question.”

Shireen Ahmed, a reporter for CBC Sports who was also in the room, wrote that the reporter was “completely out of line.”

“Harm reduction matters and posing the question to the captain or coach was unnecessary,” she added.

“Asking a player about her teammates and whether they are gay and how it affects them when you know it is not permissible is bizarre and out of line. The captain cannot out players nor comment on policy bc [because] it could be dangerous for them, too,” Ahmed wrote.

“If reporting harms someone, it is not only unethical but dangerous.”

FIFA and the Moroccan Football Federation did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment.

Morocco began its 2023 Women’s World Cup campaign with a heavy 6-0 defeat by Germany on Monday.

World soccer governing body FIFA is allowing a variety of different armbands that highlight “a range of social causes” to be worn at the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

During the tournament, team captains are each allowed to wear an armband chosen from eight different social causes, including gender equality, inclusion and peace.

There is no explicit mention of LGBTQ rights in Women’s World Cup armbands, beyond the themes of “gender equality” and “inclusion.”

With the departure of the head of NatWest bank for 'inappropriate' contact with a BBC journo, we need an investigation into BBC editorship in actually publishing the item she generated.

This is so typical of the BBC today. (The interview with the female Moroccan player). Never mind about the difficulties of actually becoming a female football player in a country that is very much male-dominated, let's just get the LGBT+ question in. The BBC will of course believe it is doing the right thing - it always does. CNN is enjoying the schadenfreude (no love lost between those two), but the BBC (especially abroad) is seen as representative of Britain, and it is time they realised that the rest of the world seems to run its business quite well without all this woke nonsense.

Can we expect to see and hear the fragrant Laura K screeching "Will you now resign Mr Jack?" when he walks through the front doors of New Broadcasting House?

Not quite as bad as it seemed? The BBC now say they contacted Ms Rose and asked her if she would be happy for them to run the story.

She was, but the BBC should have run it passed a scrutiny committee if Jack could not smell the manure himself.

Have you never been in the situation where something is above your pay grade and a problem shared is a problem that goes away?

If Jack reckoned it was his pay grade then he should consider his position too.

You are assuming, I think, that they did not? I do not have that information. I would 'assume' it would have been someone above Jack's pay grade who should, indeed, have known better, but I don't think the BBC would have been breaching any confidentiality by reporting what a CEO has said (and approved), so no 'manure'?

I wonder why all those wrinklies are deserting the BBC for other sources of information and entertainment?

Coming after such as this from earlier this year;

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... st-cutting

and savage attack dogs such as these stealing Auntie Beeb's former thunder;

https://inews.co.uk/news/media/inside-g ... ge-2167630

we now have this from the beancounters, but luckily the Beeb doesn't have shareholders to keep happy with humungous dividends, only the hapless (reducing numbers of) disaffected viewers who are supposed to keep the sinking ship afloat;

:---"BBC Faces Mass Revolt From Television Viewers With 2.8 Million Refusing to Pay TV Licence Fee.

2.84 million viewers are refusing to pay the BBC licence fee – a 360,000 increase from last year. It looks increasingly as if the BBC cannot survive on its current funding model and should become a subscription-based service like Netflix and Amazon Prime. The Mail has more.

The BBC is facing a revolt from millions of television viewers who are no longer willing to pay the television licence fee.

A record 2.84 million people now insist they are no longer obliged to fork out £159 for the annual charge because they don’t watch BBC channels or any kind of live TV.

This figure is an increase of more than 360,000 on the previous twelve months.

This abandonment of the BBC will exacerbate the debate about the future of both the broadcaster and the licence fee.

Toby Young, the Founder and Director of the Free Speech Union said: “These figures show that the TV licence fee is not a viable funding model for the BBC going forward.”

He added: “The obvious alternative is to become a subscription-based service like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Given the BBC’s global brand recognition and its reputation for producing premium content, it could become the largest and most profitable streaming service in the world.”

The increase in the number of people claiming they are not liable to pay the charge is one of the factors driving a fall in the number of licences sold.

Last year TV Licensing (TVL) which collects the licence fee on behalf of the BBC sold 23.50 million licences.

That was a drop of around 420,000 on the previous year’s figure.

Of course, any reduction in the number of licenses sold has implications for the BBC’s finances.

The Corporation is already having to cut services following the Government’s decision in 2022 to freeze the licence fee for two years.

Last year the BBC earned £3,741 million from the licence fee compared with £3,800 million the previous year.

That is a fall of £59 million.

At the same time the public service broadcaster is also having to deal with an increase in licence fee evasion from people who are eligible to pay but don’t.

The estimated evasion rate, which in part is being driven by the cost of living crisis, has increased to over 10% for the first time since 1995.

It is believed the current rate of licence fee evasion is costing the BBC £430 a million a year"---:
