When I were a lad at school, I was taught that Julius Caesar invaded Britain in 55BC and other historical dates also used the notation BC to signify "Before Christ" and AD to signify 'Anno Domini'. Watching "Pointless" tonight, there were a series of questions about Roman Britain where the dates were given as 'CE' ("Common Era") or 'BCE' (Before Common Era). Is this the BBC trying to brainwash the population by eradicating mention of Christ when it comes to dating historical events in these islands? Is this another example of the BBC trying not to offend non-Christians?

As at October 2019, the BBC News style guide has entries for AD and BC, but not for CE or BCE.
Some parts of the BBC use BCE/CE, but others have refused to do so.
So it appears to be some lefties within Al-JaBeeba, not a strict matter of policy

BBC News tonight: Interpol has issued a provisional arrest warrant for Carlos Ghosn. Didn't mention: Ghosn has a French passport, and the French, being good World Citizens, never extradite any French citizen under any circumstances whatsoever.

If he's in Lebanon then it's not up to the French if the Lebanese decide to send him to Japan. I guess we could have an incident if the French air force intercepted a Japanese airliner in international airspace and 'encouraged' it to land in France.

Apparently Lebanon and Japan don’t have an extradition treaty, but there’s a bit of a ***** storm about how he got there. Via Istanbul is the rumour :-o
When all else fails, read the instructions.

If he could get away from Japan and pop up in Lebanon then he could appear in France with no trouble...

And tonight's Turkish flight from CPT that eventually landed at JHB?

Was it full of Nipponese MI6/CIA types?

The saga of the slanging match between a member of the audience and a panellist on Thurday's 'Question Time' rumbles on. Someone called Steve Gosforth has made a complaint to the BBC and here's a copy of the letter I've picked up from another forum. No doubt he will be shown the usual two fingers by the BBC. Wouldn't be the first time the BBC has been accused of having 'plants' in the audience.

Excellent letter and I hope (but doubt) that it will be treated with the gravity it deserves.

I don't watch QT very often as its leftie/minority/PC/immigrant bias pisses me off. Pity because Fiona Bruce is good presenter but she is a tool of her employers, the Bolshevik Broadcasting Craporation.

I dunno what CE and BCE mean and can’t be bothered looking it up.

The frigging ratbag PC brigade don’t realise BC and AD are merely convenient historical time reference datum points. If it had’ve been BM (Before Mo) and AM (After Mo) similar to what the sand nigs use for calendaric purposes as an example I couldn’t give a crap that it’s with ref to a desert rat.

CE and BCE came from academia probably because much of the world is not Christian. But this is still a Christian country and as such it should be BC/AD.

The Chinese are quite happy using our calendar for convenience and theirs for culture.

You try and get a Muslim or Hindu to work Christmas Day!

I think we can agree that Open All Hours is a little different.

The guy who wrote the letter has said he will keep folks informed. As I visit that forum everyday, I will certainly keep an eye open and report back when there is something to report - possibly at least 14 days which is the BBC's target response time.

I still think the BBC will tell him to effoff - see the response I got when I asked why it was necessary, and at what cost, to send a reporter 12,000 mile to report on the Oz bush fires when there were already capable reporters already on-site.

The Scots always volunteered for Christmas, so that they could have Hogmanay off.

Don't they sometimes think all airplanes look alike as well?
