I see the BBC is going to do a LGBT (lots more initials) version of Dr Who, written and acted by gay and trans women. However it's disgraceful that no dwarves are included, or illegal immigrant dwarves, perhaps gay ones. Or deaf mutes, perhaps. Once again the BBC have failed, utterly, in their attempt to be 'inclusive'.

It's just been pointed out to me that none of the alien creatures in Dr Who are Jewish. What is the wretched BBC up to!

I see the next actor to play Dr Who is from Africa. I've no wish to prejudge him, he might well be a jolly good actor, but can't you just see the PC Noddies at BBC ticking off their list of categories. "Now we've had a woman, next must be a black, after that a disabled illegal immigrant, then perhaps a deaf and dumb lesbian... "

Do you mean a deaf and dumb one-legged pregnant lesbian?

For a right-on organisation obsessed with equality, diversity, 'uman rights , BAME, white privilege, etc. - they're showing a John Wayne film on BBC2 where JW is suppressing the indigenous natives of North America - someone in scheduling due an interview without coffee and an appointment at the re-education gulag? =))

Probably not as the film has an important quality...it is undoubtedly CHEAP, and thus leave more £s to be paid to the BEEBs 'stars'.

From the pages of the Branch Covidian Times comes this glowing reference for Aunty Beeb which should secure her future and a whacking good licence fee hike?

Or perhaps not...;

They've had enough warnings before now, so maybe time for the red card as it's too late for reform and an extended lease. [-X

So bm, what kind of baloney would you watch between the wall-to-wall adverts on the ITV or is that also too "whatever it is that boils your bile or piss" for you?

All I can say to you (programme now on BBC) ... "We hear you Clem Fandango".

Spiked of course is run/written a bunch of ex-Marxist tossers who imagine they are at the leading edge of the new intellectual avant-garde when they are, for the most part, a bunch of pretentious smeg-heads!

A good book and some music off a CD* will suffice but thank you anyway for your concern over my spare time recreation during the dark days!

* Yes, I do have a stock of these mysterious devices and the whizzing widgets with which to play them. When CBDC strikes such pleasures will be denied to the revolting peasants, many of whom believe they can still stream stuff off the interweb despite being cancelled by the Ministry of Truth & Compliance. 8-}

Edited to add:---"Spiked of course is run/written a bunch of ex-Marxist tossers who imagine they are at the leading edge of the new intellectual avant-garde when they are, for the most part, a bunch of pretentious smeg-heads!" which means that I cannot be accused of being one of the right-wing looneys sooh despised in this forum? :)) =))

just in case any here have not heard the expression before and are curious? :o)

Your fight for musical freedom is to be admired! ^:)^

And never forget that in the City of London you are never more than 3 metres (10 real feet for our non-metric brothers) from a hedge fund manager!

Or should that be "from a rat"? My memory is crap these days. :(

Just watched the evening news on BBC 1 - something I don't normally do, but I was just warming up the valves for MOTD. So all the usual stuff is handled, though not much on the situation in Ukraine. Then they do a full two-minute plus piece on some film or other made in Ireland, starring Liam Neeson! The world is going to hell in a handcart, and this, apparently, is the best the BBC can do on a Saturday night. I notice that when they do that gallery shot of the news studio, you can count the number of people working there on the fingers of one hand.

But did you look at any of the other channels at the same time, or are we just dealing with statistical bias here! ;)))

Just asking!

Are you referring to the news content or the studio? If you're referring to the news content, then no, but I don't believe another broadcaster would do that. Moreover, it is advertising/promotion, which the BBC is not supposed to indulge in. For news, I only watch al Jazeera, that recognises that there is a world beyond British politics which, like many others on the forum I suspect, I am absolutely sick of. Their newsdesks are not manned by everyone all the time either, a bit like bank counters or supermarket check-outs.

"15,000 people from across the country voted for our favourite BBC moments of all time;

1.Nelson Mandela's release from prison.
2.The Two Ronnies' 'Four Candles' sketch.
3.The fall of the Berlin Wall.
4.The 1969 Apollo moon landing.
5.David Attenborough playing with the mountain gorillas in Life on Earth.
6.Live Aid.
7.The final scene in Blackadder Goes Forth.
8.The Queen having afternoon tea with Paddington Bear.
9.When Del Boy falls through the bar in Only Fools and Horses.
10“The Queen” jumping out of the helicopter at the 2012 London Olympics.

This list is a perfect reminder that the BBC has something for everyone. From classic comedy sketches to world-class coverage of once-in-a-lifetime events. But despite this, over recent years, we’ve seen the Government and other critics ramp up their attacks* on the BBC and threaten its future funding."

Gosh, weren't we lucky? But there are some programs which would never be commissioned now in 2022, let alone see the light of day. And look at all the old favourites which have been censored or 'pollarded' in case they now cause offence to the snowflakes taking over the narrative for us all! X(

* Mmmm, I wonder why? It wouldn't be connected with their one-sided reporting of the Brexit debacle, or the 'plague' fearporn barrage, or their obsession with "woke" crap, or the pronouns and language diktats forced on their employees, or the astronomical salaries paid to potato-crisp advertising former footballers and other 'celebs' or the steady outwards flow of some long-term presenters and the ceasing of contracts with other long-term staff popular with the peasants. So I'm at a loss to why the 'guvvment and other critics have ramped up attacks.

Answers on the back of one of our old postage stamps, which will soon be redundant and replaced with some barcode crap which will facilitate those geeks who get off on that sort of gadget "to watch videos, find out information and send birthday messages to each other through the barcodes which can be scanned with the Royal Mail app." ~X(

Well good luck with that and don't grump when the data you've inadvertently injected into your App suddenly gets "lost" in a typical Post Office IT malfunction on the scale of the Fujitsu 'Horizon' software scandal.

But I sense thread drift so here's a squeeze of the rudder pedal, I'm off to stock up on logs, smokeless coal and batteries for my winter hibernation when the lights go off... :-?

The BBC appears to be attempting to dismantle its local radio network now. I used to listen to it when I last lived in the UK, and still listened to my favourite presenters as much as I could (and would email them comments during their shows) even having moved to California. Then came the pandemic, the BBC screwed it all up and I lost interest in their output, mainly because some of the presenters quit or retired, and others ended up being moved to times when I was asleep.

Poor old Auntie Beeb, she has slipped down into page 2 of Pollyticks & Controversial Topics, so I thought it might be good to elevate her back into public consciousness in case censorship was suspected as the reason for lack of prominence.... =))

For anyone here who might be involved with the 'heavies' from BBC/TV Licensing/Crapita knocking on their door investigating the strange lack of a valid licence applicable to their address, this case might be well worth following even if only for entertainment purposes?

https://rumble.com/v2aykae-martin-gedde ... apita.html

I played the vid @ 1.25x speed as the delivery was too pedestrian for my liking and anyway, lunch calls

I also like the content of the geddes website as it seems to fulfil my desperate hope that the small man in the street has the motive and the means to fight back against TPTB.

https://newsletter.martingeddes.com

Incidentally, the peoples' 'favourite' energy supplier* is hassling me to have a 'smart' meter fitted, on the specious grounds that the certification for my current maters has expired.

*(Any of various carnivorous marine cephalopod mollusks chiefly of the family Octopodidae, having a soft body, eight arms with suckers, a large distinct head, and a mouth with a strong beak.
Something, such as a multinational corporation, that has many powerful, centrally controlled branches.)

So for anyone here in the same predicament, a simple interweb search will throw up a host of precedent and examples as to why you are not obliged to have one of these CCP-style social credit system remote cutoff switches installed in your home.

They will tell a white lie and say it is a legal requirement to have one fitted, but the actual legal obligation is imposed by UK HMG that the suppliers should have 85% of customers suitably hooked up to these useless toys by 2020. X(

Having failed to reach this arbitrary target, they have been given until 2024 (standby for the aggressive marketing push!) to achieve the 85% figure, so I consider myself to be one of the (un)lucky 15% who will miss out, ooh tragedy!!

I have been attempting to get a new electrickery meter fitted to our cottage in Cornwall for some years (the existing meter does not work) and was offered a 'smart' meter which I politely declined. I was then told that whilst the 'smart' meter was free, a 'non-smart' one would cost £120, but I could have the 'smart' meter disabled so that it was no longer 'smart', which would be free. I agreed to this but their technician failed to show on the arranged date so I did not get one after all. Still not fitted as we only visit the cottage about three times per year, but I don't really mind as as the meter is not working I only pay the standing charge.
