UP is correct but only to a minor degree. It is the African mentality, tribalism, despotism, corruption, scant regard for life, lack of education and love of violence that are the underlying problems.

Lines in the sand are a catalyst.
Correct. The African propensity for tribalism is what drives the violence. Lines in the sand are just a convenient excuse to blame the ex-colonial powers for the fact that much of Africa is a complete wreck.

Except I blame the colonising poms for introducing to the natives the culture of neck ties, taxes, and bureaucratic red tape. As an e.g. Malaysia & Singapore.

At least everyone drives on the left.
Imagine what would have happened if it was the colonising Frogs (or Spanish, Portuguese or Dutch, as the other main options).

With the notable exception of Algeria, the ffrogs have tended to leave their colonies in Africa in pretty fair nick.

Having lived in Nigeria for a couple of years, I worked in Gabon and the difference was incredible. The traffic lights worked - and people obeyed them! The phones, water and electricity all worked well. Bureaucratic corruption was on a scale similar to that of West Lothian Planning Dept, ie manageable. It was a really nice place. Lagos? Not so much! Rhodesia/ZimBobwe? No thanks.

I think that's an accurate comment. I haven't been to any of the ex-frog colonies in Africa for many years, and have no intention of going, but my memories of Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal are that they were more or less functional. I think their colonial masters kept some grip on the economy by introducing a currency tied to the French Franc, possibly a smart move.

The Belgians were perhaps the worst of the colonisers, although Rwanda seems to have emerged well, but even the Belgians will look good compared to the Chinese who are now taking over in central and southern Africa.

Rhodesia was paradise until Mugabe and his henchmen took power. It started as a slow decline through the 80s but then spiralled into the chaotic mess it is now, aided and abetted by the do-gooders and lefties of the world who ignored the voices of reason. If they had any, the likes of that loathsome oleaginous prick Peter Hain would hang their heads in shame.

Tragically, although for many years I looked at it through blinkers, trying to see only the positives, I fear ZA is on the same path, and that opinion is shared by many friends who have been staunchly against packing up and leaving, but are now doing so.

Cyril Ramaphosa has not reversed the decline, although he may have slowed it down, but then after Zuma that was not difficult.
Zuma did more harm to South Africa, her people, economy, and reputation in his 9 years' tenure than the Nationalists did in 45 years.

Ramaphosa is fighting on several fronts and is definitely not being helped by the ANC trying to cling to the corrupt state that Zuma left behind.

Excellent article, Woody, and sadly it explains very well the damage that the Guptas and Zuma have wrought.

Not so long ago Zimbabwe and South Africa were Africa's premier states, with robust economies and first world institutions and the resources and productivity to promise increased living standards for their people. Then the Left gained control and ran them into the ground, demonizing their most productive elements, corrupting government, dissipating the wealth of their nations, and ensuring a future of basket case economies and misery of the people doomed to live through the next generation.

All in the name of enlightened humanism.

Ethiopian Airlines, a carrier that has suffered from too rapid growth, has outgrown its current airport at ADD and has announced the building of a new one designed to handle 100 million pax per annum.

The bubble may well burst before the airport is built, and it will become another white elephant, and millstone round the neck of an impoverished country. It will of course be built and financed by the Chinese, increasing Ethiopia's indebtedness and enslavement to the yellow peril, the new and evil colonisers of Africa.

Relax folks!! MSM stated recently that 1 of 3 Africans were determined to move to Europe when able, so the overcrowding disorder lawlessness hunger etc will soon be solved by moving the problems northwards to what are perceived as better-off countries.
Mind you, IL Papa in the Vatican could help by permitting contraception in that unfortunate continent. IIRC there was a proposal to hoist the then incumbent into the Hague on trial for mass murder due to the AIDS fatalities generated there by the condom ban but that one withered and disappeared.
Now that Geldof is no longer busy sailing up the Thames to prevent Brexit perhaps he could return to the dark continent and sort it all out again? :-\

Might start a war if the police try to arrest him, and MK defend him.
