Chaos in USA
Re: Chaos in USA
Putin dies and faces St Peter...
[Saint Peter] "You are accused of having invaded Ukraine without cause, how do you plead?"
[Putin] "G.W.Bushed invaded Iraq"
[Saint Peter] "Err, good point, come right in."

He also stood down as leader after 8 years. Not that doing so excuses him from the crime.

"The US will send additional military aid worth $775 million to Kiev, the Pentagon announced on Friday. The newest batch of weapons will include howitzers, drones and mine-clearing equipment, as well as munitions for the HIMARS rocket launchers and other US-made weapons."
Surely the U,S. taxpayers. considering the many needs in their own country, are getting pissed off with this generosity of weaponry to prolong the destruction in Ukraine? How many people in America would even know where Ukraine is?

"Russian President Vladimir Putin is not wrong to blame the US for working to prolong the fighting in Ukraine, a high-profile American military expert has told Newsweek.
The respective goals of Washington and Kiev in the conflict contradict each other, claimed Sean Spoonts, a US Navy veteran and editor-in-chief of the Special Operations Forces Report (SOFREP) website.
“It seems like while Ukraine would like to end the war quickly and decisively defeat Russian forces and drive them out of their country, US policy almost seems designed to prolong the conflict hoping to bring about the collapse of Russia itself, both militarily and economically,” he said.
“That goes a lot further than [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky’s goal, which is to simply get Russian armies out of his country and regain lost territories in Donbass, Lugansk and Crimea,” he added. "

Re: Chaos in USA
I happen to sympathise with Ukraine as a nation invaded by a barbaric, expansionist, neighbour but if you want a realpoliitik version of the story there is one.
Russia boasted it had one of the most powerful militaries in the World and everyone believed it. The combat in Ukraine has dispelled this notion but also ensured that even the now perceptually weakened Russia is, in reality, materially weakened. We now know the exact capability of Russian command and control and the performance of its weapons systems with the added benefit that a large proportion of its army and weapons have been destroyed in the war at relatively insignificant cost to western nations.
If you need a financial viewpoint here is a by no means complete list of the benefits we have purchased.
Russian weapons have been destroyed and can only be replaced at vast expense over a period of a decade.
The Russian military has been weakened by loss of trained personnel and recruitment of replacements will be reduced by the view that the military is no longer such a great career.
Russian arms sales will reduce because of the perception that they are inferior.
Countries presently using Russian weapons will be uncertain of their effectiveness.
China will now view Russia as a less useful ally.
NATO can breath a sigh of relief that there will be no Russian expansion in the next decade.
Russia will lose much of the income it receives from energy sales as western countries doubt the stability of supplies.
Russia may lose the use of an effective Black Sea fleet reducing its influence in the Mediterranean and Arab world.
Iran will become more isolated.
NATO will be enhanced.
We learn a great deal about the effectiveness of our own weapons.
Perhaps even Putin may go hopefully to be replaced with a more rational leader.
We simply need to supply a load of weapons that would have been time expired over the next few years in any case.

Re: Chaos in USA
Or, in the case of the Germans, already wereWe simply need to supply a load of weapons that would have been time expired over the next few years in any case.
The primary purpose of almost all the weapons supplied was to defeat the Russian army, which they now are doing. This is gobsmackingly efficient, and we should have supplied more of them earlier, and still more of them now.
Worth pointing out that the US Army is reportedly going to undershoot its recruitment targets by around 40% this year, so all is not well outside Russia either.

" Perhaps even Putin may go hopefully to be replaced with a more rational leader."
And I would say that hopefully Biden will be replaced by a more rational leader. So worried about what happens on the Ukraine border and not at all worried that many thousands of illegal entries are taking place on his own Southern Border. And not even vaccinated against Covid, as has been the mandatory requirement for his own citizens.

I pray that the USA never gets any more closely involved in the Ukraine than it is now.

Compared to the cost of their usual disastrous overseas campaigns and not getting their own military killed and wounded, this must be a bargain. The US will send additional military aid worth $775 million to Kiev, the Pentagon announced on Friday. Lots of planning and preparation for street parties, and, no doubt, a few protests. Big lawsuit against Trump and his three children in New York, including referrals for criminal investigations.
Claiming it's all political only works if there's no evidence, otherwise no one could ever prosecute any politician if they could get out of it by claiming it was politics. Let the jury decide.
Even the BBC have decided to mention it https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-62986812

Even the BBC???
They'd mention it if Trump put some recycling in the wrong bin - Canada too!
It's the only foreign news item in the Atlantic Canada top stories - Mobilization in Russia and Putin's threats of nuclear war doesn't get a mention.

In present day US that is quite possible. Sneeze at the wrong time and it's racist.

Re: Chaos in USA
I wouldn't expect Russia to be mentioned in the Atlantic Canada top stories, wrong part of the world. It was taking top billing on what the BBC News gives me as a top page, Trump was a smaller headline to the side.Fox3WheresMyBanana wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 8:33 pmEven the BBC???

As of this morning, Russia is now the other foreign Top Story.
Re: Chaos in USA
How about these little gaffes
"If a week is a long time in politics, 24-hours can seem like an eternity, especially when a White House administration is confused by basic historical facts.
U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris amply illustrated this Thursday when she ended her four-day trip to Asia with a journey to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) dividing the Korean Peninsula.
During the stop she confused onlooks by asserting the United States has a “strong alliance” with “the Republic of North Korea.”
“It is an alliance that is strong and enduring,” she added, intending to refer to the Republic of Korea, which is South Korea’s official name.
Her gaffe came barely 24-hours after President Joe Biden was himself confounded by events when he mistakenly gave a White House shoutout to Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN).
“Jackie are you here? Where’s Jackie?” Biden asked after thanking several bipartisan members of congress. “I didn’t think she was going to be here,” he added.
Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-IN) died in a tragic car accident in August."
