Chaos in USA
Re: Chaos in USA
Yes but the "cabal" wants true socialism. No private property, state knows best, Basic Minimum Income, confiscatory taxation, government run hospitals. The list goes on. Sadly they are inching toward it.
Because they stand on the wall and say "nothing's gonna hurt you tonight, not on my watch".

But no politician would accept a living wage and live in a project home.
Re: Chaos in USA
cabal - "a secret political clique or faction". Interested to know how you got the information, Dushan? Is this QAnon or some other 'secret' faction? What do you know?Dushan wrote:Yes but the "cabal" wants true socialism. No private property, state knows best, Basic Minimum Income, confiscatory taxation, government run hospitals. The list goes on. Re: Chaos in USA
i think that you will find most people in the US would approve of mild socialism, certainly the lack of government health care is criminal in that people out of reach of the system suffer terribly. Reparations to the 8th generations of descendants of slaves is something different, many people pushing for this would actually have no way of proving previous generations of their family were slaves other than the circumstantial evidence of skin colour. This idea disregards the fact that previous generations of the Irish, Italians, Japanese and Chinese were effectively slaves for the first generations of their families in the US, the only difference is that the black slaves worked in plantations while the others worked on railroads etc.

No outrage over this hate crime, but at least they have the perpetrator in custody, again. Quite a history of violence, yet on parole.

Re: Chaos in USA
Yep, 100%, it fits a narrative....I agree that the US doesn't know what real socialism is. It's used as a bogey word to scare people.
Re: Chaos in USA
Yes, of course they should be able to live reasonably comfortably!, It's not IRAQ for chrissake!I would suggest that people should be able to survive reasonably comfortably on what they get paid for a 40 hour work week. They could back a few decades ago, so remuneration for their efforts have clearly not kept up with the general inflation of the economy. Any business that can't afford to pay its employees that much clearly is not viable in a capitalist society and should fold.
Re: Chaos in USA
Your words...but what we on the outside have long suspected....again, It's not a 3rd World Country, US Citizens should be afforded health care. Jesus would have healed them.certainly the lack of government health care is criminal in that people out of reach of the system suffer terribly.

Re: Chaos in USA
Yes, the US should have health care but the reasons it does not are many and sometimes difficult. The first problem is political because neither side will sign off or cooperate on the other's medical plans, both sides want the other side to fail. Then, the supporters of the parties have more influence than the general population, businesses don't want more taxes, the young don't think they should subsidise the old. Then you have State differences, and health care is primarily the right of the States. Some States, generally those with higher populations, would welcome health plans but States with lower populations are afraid they would pay disparately for those with higher populations. Until there is cooperation in Washington DC and a plan so sensible that all States would accept it health care will have a difficult time. Unfortunately the people suffering have very little sway.
The problem would have been easier to solve in the time before politics became so divisive, remember that the US actually had a President who used a wheelchair.
This sounds like the usually anti-political whine but the politicians in the US need to be kicked in the crutch until they join together to do something for the country rather than for their greedy and egotistical selves. Too many of them are rich and far too many of them got rich on the job.

Re: Chaos in USA
If you took what employers are already paying for employee healthcare, plus the employee contributions, took out the entire health insurance parasitic industry and its associated overheads, you'd most likely get better coverage for everyone for the same input money. Of course, all the health insurance companies would spend a lot of our money on lobbying Congress to prevent that happening.
For those who want their own healthcare, have top-up private insurance, similar to what happens in the UK so they can still do it if they want to pay for it.

Re: Chaos in USA
llondel, like education in UK. Everyone pays but the rich pay for private education on top.
Europe has overarching agencies like for vaccine approval, and doesn't that work well, but individual States have totally different health care systems. Citizens have a health card that entitles them to health care in other States and payment refunded by their own State.
As an aside my younger daughter was treated at a French University hospital by a professor who was called in on a Sunday. His diagnosis and treatment was correct and had never been picked up by NHS Scotland. This was free of charge.
