Capitol fence to be reinstalled ahead of Biden’s State of the Union address
Capitol grounds were previously fenced off after Jan. 6, 2021, riot

U.S. Capitol Police are bracing for a potential "Freedom Convoy" truck protest to Washington D.C. for the March 1 speech. "Freedom Convoy" truckers have been protesting in Canada for weeks against coronavirus restrictions and vaccine mandates and caused a temporary blockade of the busy Ambassador Bridge border crossing between Windsor and Detroit.

Capitol Police say they are "aware" of similar protests coming to Washington D.C. and are making plans to both "facilitate" First Amendment protest activity while working with law enforcement agencies and the D.C. National Guard to prepare for Biden's address.

"The United States Capitol Police and the United States Secret Service have been closely working together to plan for the upcoming State of the Union," the U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement Friday. "

At least it is being acknowledged that First Amendment Rights do exist here in the US.

1.
a. To express a strong objection.
b. To participate in a public demonstration in opposition to something.
2. To make an earnest avowal or affirmation.
n. (prō′tĕst′)
1. A formal declaration of disapproval or objection issued by a concerned person, group, or organization.
2. A public demonstration or organized effort to show disapproval about something, especially a governmental policy or practice.
3. Law A declaration of objection and reservation of rights, made when action would otherwise imply consent or agreement:

DC trucker convoy plans on shutting down Capital Beltway, organizer says: 'Giant boa constrictor'
Organizer says convoy is protesting wide-ranging issues including fuel prices, vaccine mandates"

It will be interesting to see how the protest develops and also how the Democrats will try to shut this all down.

Biden urgently needs re-enable the USA's ability to be energy independent as was the case when he took office.

Reducing coal supply to China would also go a long way as I see it.

Stop sending 'em rice, too, ferfuxake.

That'll soon sort them out.

They'll soon learn their place. ;)))

Then where will they be? Nowhere to sell their telephone system to. Nowhere to sell their laptops to. Nowhere to sell their mobile telephones to. No more tablet thingies. No more big screen tellies to make or to sell to us. No more cheap shite for us to give to eachother at Crimbo.

We'll have 'em by their small Asian balls.

Phuqt, they'll be, I tell ye. Phuqt!

That'll teach 'em.

Here's an interesting one, Biden and the California governor have announced plans to establish a domestic mineral supply chain in California to lessen dependence on Chinese imports.

https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/califor ... a/2820120/

Given the industrial toxic wasteland around Chinese rare-earth mines and processing plants, I wonder how that's going to play into California's green credentials?

A year ago the Democrat war cry was "Defund the police"

Tonight Biden was saying that we need to fund the police.

How quickly things change in politics.

I always thought the slogan was wrong. It's not so much defund the police as make sure the funds are spent on hiring or training people with the necessary skills. The YouTube video of the British police tackling the man with a machete and subduing him without hurting or killing anyone shows that it can be done. US police mentality generally tends towards using the supplied firearm and they often lack the training (or motivation) to properly deal with someone who is mentally ill and so resort to shooting them. The police certainly don't need all the ex-military hardware that some US police departments have acquired.

Then there was this last night during The State of the Union Address. ~X( [-X :-q L-) X(

GOP Reps. Greene, Boebert heckle Biden throughout State of the Union address
Lawmakers booed Boebert when she interrupted Biden as he was about to speak of his son's death.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/joe-bi ... s-n1290558

Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., repeatedly interrupted and interjected during President Joe Biden's State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Greene was heard grumbling through the entire part of Biden's speech about Covid policy before she shouted a remark about women's sports when Biden mentioned new laws targeting transgender Americans and their families.

Boebert and Greene tried to start a "build the wall" chant — a reference to former President Donald Trump's calls to construct a wall across the U.S. southern border — when Biden referred to securing the border and reforming immigration law.

But the moment that stood out most was when Boebert shouted "13 of them" — referring to the 13 U.S. service members who died in an attack in Afghanistan during the U.S. withdrawal last year — when Biden discussed battlefield conditions that may contribute to veterans' developing cancers "that would put them in a flag-draped coffin."

Boebert's remark came just before Biden mentioned that one such veteran was his son Beau Biden, who served in Iraq and died of brain cancer in 2015.

Her remark prompted some boos from fellow lawmakers.

"Her disruption was inappropriate, especially given the substance of the comments that the president was making at the time, which is to continue this way, which is to protect service members and our veterans," Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., said.

Sen. Mike Braun, R-Ind., said: "It's something that I think that there's a place. That's not the place to do that."

The heckling came a day after Republican leaders condemned Greene for speaking at a gathering of white nationalists in Florida over the weekend. Both Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., condemned her appearance at the America First Political Action Committee conference, which was organized by a prominent white nationalist and where attendees chanted in praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"It's unbecoming for a member of Congress to speak at an event that's promoted by anyone who espouses those views," said Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., the head of the conservative Republican Study Committee. "This is an event that no Republican should attend ... and it's unfortunate that she did."

Greene defended her appearance, telling a CBS News reporter that she knew very little about the event's founder and was not aware of his views.

Boebert has cultivated a persona similar to Greene's. Late last year, she apologized after video emerged of her suggesting that fellow Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., had been mistaken for a terrorist in an elevator both were riding in the U.S. Capitol. Omar said the entire story was made up.

But Boebert did stand and cheer for one of Biden's lines Tuesday.

"We should all agree: The answer is not to defund the police," Biden said. "The answer is to fund the police."

Boebert leaped from her seat, clapping and shouting, "That's right!"

How do you stop politicians from engaging in dirty tricks?

Cameron promised a better public face from his politicians in the Commons when he took over. Within a week or so they were all at it again - braying like donkeys and shouting at each other while waving their order papers.

Sounds like a bear pit in Congress too pp - isn't the Address supposed to be heard in silence?

FD -the State of the Nation Address is best described as an Oscar like,Hollywood Social or Dog Show where every junior politician is seen to be doing everything they can to be on TV rubbing shoulders with the ruling party elite

The President's chief cheerleader,Nancy Pelosi of course was ready to jump up and cheer and applaud anything he said.

As is always the case, the real issues such as soaring city crime ,out of control illegal immigration, rapidly rising inflation and energy costs are pretty much spoken about as non issues and on the other hand green energy, equal rights ,gay rights and the like get all of the limelight.
