Re: Chaos in USA
I see that during a campaign speed, Biden referred to "Mitterrand from Germany" instead of "Macron from France". And Mitterrand has been dead for over twenty years. Oh well, it's the thought that counts. Sort of.
Re: Chaos in USA
As a non-American, I've been wondering. HOW can it be that there are no other candidates (than Biden and Trump) to be supported as the leader of the country? And, some say that the ongoing... well, whatever you call it, has damaged the US more than the Ukraine (and maybe Israel, in case it needs the aid).

Re: Chaos in USA
This is what my friend, a rabid Republican and Democrat-hater, wrote to me this morning:
Quote:
In the US, there were other better options. We could have had Ron DeSantis, most excellent Governor of Florida, but idiots in the early Primaries voted for Trump. There were other better than Trump choices, also voted down, outnumbered: Another excellent Republican, was Vivek Ramaswamy, a very smart, outspoken, successful entrepreneur who decided the country wasn’t being run right so also ran in the early primaries. Tim Scott, a Senator, wasn’t bad either.

Re: Chaos in USA
Probes, I would not claim for a moment that Canada is in any better position than the USA for the quality of the political candidates offered, at any level of government.
I think the same about the UK.
It is a consequence, I think, of the the current party system.
There is also the question of why Joe Public keeps putting up with it and voting for them. I think we have to go back to the basics of human psychology for that, probably back to caveman times when we were wandering around in small groups. Evolution is a slow process.

Re: Chaos in USA
It’s happened again!
U.S. President Joe Biden got confused at a recent campaign event, mixing up former German Chancellors Angela Merkel and Helmut Kohl, the latter of whom died in 2017. It was Biden’s second such mix-up in less than a week.
Speaking at a fundraiser in New York on Wednesday, the Democrat leader recalled a 2021 conversation with G7 leaders when the slip-up happened. In that conversation, leaders were discussing the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol, which had happened a few months prior, when the German leader addressed Biden."And then Helmut Kohl turned to me and said, ‘What would you say, Mr. President, if you picked up the London Times and learned that 1,000 people had broken down the doors of the British parliament, killed some bobbies on the way in, to deny the prime minister to take office,”’ Biden said, as reported by multiple outlets.
But Kohl, who led Germany as chancellor from 1982 until 1998, had died four years earlier and it was Merkel who attended the 2021 G7 event.
This is the second time this week that the U.S. president has mixed up European leaders with dead ones.

Re: Chaos in USA
Biden keeps referencing dead heads of state to acknowledge his dead voter base.
Because they stand on the wall and say "nothing's gonna hurt you tonight, not on my watch".

Re: Chaos in USA
More than that, Mr Hur recounted, he had struggled to recall which years he had been vice-president and when his oldest son, Beau Biden, had died of cancer.
It was this last claim that prompted an angry response from the president during his press conference at the White House on Thursday evening.
"How in the hell he dare raise that?" the president said.
The press conference itself could lend more fuel to the attacks on Mr Biden, however, as the president answered a question about the Gaza War by referring to Egyptian President Mohamed al-Sisi as the president of Mexico.

Mexico, Egypt - same difference. All those brown people...

Re: Chaos in USA
It certainly does not look good for the USA. With Biden 'showing his age' and the probable Republican candidate convinced the Confederate Air Force took part in the American Civil War the future is far from comfortable.
Re: Chaos in USA
Bring back Ronald Reagan - there was a man who knew what day it was (somewhere).
Re: Chaos in USA
Whereas Clinton sometimes did not know if he was coming or going...................

Re: Chaos in USA
I recall an article that said George H.W. Bush's greatest contribution to saving the planet was Not Dying...
..since Dan Quayle was his VP.

Re: Chaos in USA
OK, having no strong emotions to either (Trump or Biden), could anybody explain how it's possible that a person who is under criminal investigation will get clearance of becoming a president and then being one, if supported enough? (no comparing to Biden's dubious speech moments, please, that's bad and that's it).
Re: Chaos in USA
Has the Chump expressed any comment on the israel/Gaza situation or ignored it?

Re: Chaos in USA
Usual stuff.
Didn't happen on my watch.
Sympathy with victims.
I Have A Plan, but no details.
Same thing any politician does when the guy in charge has bad ratings.
Same stuff from Starmer, Poilievre, etc, on any subject.

Key words being “criminal investigation”. One is innocent unless (not “until”) proven guilty in a court of law beyond reasonable doubt.probes wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 8:08 amOK, having no strong emotions to either (Trump or Biden), could anybody explain how it's possible that a person who is under criminal investigation will get clearance of becoming a president and then being one, if supported enough? But that was a civil case.
Adjudged to be $88,300,000 to the plaintiff.

Never confuse a legal system with justice.
Nero, Vlad the Impaler, Hitler, Stalin..they all had legal systems.
