Come to think of it, I don't know the hoops a furrener would have to jump through to buy a gun.
Requirements are over 18 years to buy a long gun and I think 21 for a hand gun. FBI background check: again don't know how it would be done on a furrener. Usually takes less than three days, I think.
I can purchase guns without any wait period thanks to having a concealed carry permit. While I live in an open carry state, no permit required to carry, concealed or open, going through the permit process has certain advantages.

Following the alarming degeneration of linguistic ability in the US (qv Boeing thread) I now discover (from reading an American author) that 'Murricans' are apparently confused by the word 'lead' i.e. 'to guide someone or something' and have to spell it 'lede' to avoid confusion with Pb ('plumbum' - steady there folks... ).

It gets worse! Do they walk their dogs using a dog lede? Anyone know?

EA, it starts from attitude. One goes in to the other's area. If one party is distrustful so the other may also be wary.

In Miami we accidentally drove through a residential area. There were low cost homes set out on lawned plots, each separated by low chain link fence. People just stood in their yards and watched us. We realised we were trespassing.

In another area, houses were more attractive, front lawns, pelicans and unfenced. No one around and all windows shuttered. We felt comfortable walking on the sidewalk.

The difference was marked.
