Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Nope, the one I've seen is in the Mirror and the Guardian.
The Police van is right behind them at that point, and given the spacing in the BBC video, either the police van was chasing and caught up to them, or it's been very cleverly edited to show that.
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/c ... e-30058293
Interesting that the BBC have either chosen to show that video, or failed to get hold of the more relevant one.
Whilst the SWP are doubtless correct in their statement about the location of their vehicles, because that will have been legally checked, I have no doubt that the citizens of Ely don't think they weren't involved, and that their statement helped trigger the riots.
As to whether the two boys were still looking around for police rather than watching other traffic, or it was them riding like idiots anyway, we shall likely never find out.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
By the way, I have an electric bike, and in the parts catalogue the rear carrier is called a seat, and they are supplied that way in Asia with a padded cushion.
As I'm sure you know, whole families ride on one bike in Asian cities.
Also, it has a power-only mode which is not mentioned in the western manuals (because it's generally illegal to have a non-pedal assist mode), but is still there.
The catch is, whilst the power is OK, the brakes are not up to scratch with a second person on board.
I would strongly expect that the inability to stop was the cause of their demise.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
The Torygraph now has a good summary, with positions/times
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/0 ... lice-cctv/
Compressing the pic to fit removes data.
Red is the boys, white the police van, black square marks the bollards
The accident appears to have happened within 10 seconds of the boys passing through the bollards.
On Google maps, there appears to be a road hump almost at the accident site, coupled with people routinely parking half on the road/half on the pavement. One suspects that both of these were probably factors.

Whatever the rights and wrongs, the police have dug themselves a huge hole here. One local man, who did not wish to be named, accused the police of misleading the public and said there was still anger in the area about what had happened.
He added: "For the police to say there was no chase is a joke. Now that video is out there everyone knows they are lying."
Liz Saville Roberts, a Plaid Cymru MP, said the police handling of the situation had been “chaotic and irresponsible”.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
I do think the police handling of this is crass in the extreme.
What on earth is the point of chasing them? The Canadian police gave this up some years ago for reasons which are obvious.
All the local scrotes know where the escape routes are on these estates - I know as I used to live on one as a kid - and the police should too.
It's not as if catching them makes a ha'porth of difference. Check out the parade of shops on Wilson Road; five takeaways, a tattoo parlour, and a criminal lawyers specialising in "Magistrates Courts, Crown Courts, prison law, parole, and early release".
Then to have the police office suits deny everything and expect it all to go away shows how out of touch they are, in a different way.
And they've even screwed themselves with the local politicians by having them repeat the police BS multiple times on TV.
On a lighter note, the Police spokesperson was DCC Bacon

Their inability to stop voluntarily contributed to their demise.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Has there been any report on what killed them? Hit vehicle or wall? Reminds me of a boy in Islington, being chased by police, ran into wall and died. He was a member of a local Family. Dealing drugs, but "such a good boy, deep down."

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Mr Fox, I think there may be an error with the track of the police van in that Telegraph picture.
It appears to show the police van doubled back on Stanway Road and turned right into Howell Road, whereas the footage on the BBC shows the police van turning left into Howell Road - a point made by the BBC journalist who was commenting on the video - it didn't go past that junction and double back.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Thank you.
I don't think that'll change anyone in Ely's view of the situation.
OFSO, I can't find any details of the actual accident, including trying local newspapers, who usually include that kind of thing.
I would think the two boys were still somewhat inattentive with the euphoria of escaping the police, but I have no idea what level of attentiveness or riding skill they normally had.
There also remains the question of whether the police were intending to resume a search for the boys, or whether the boys believed that they would so try, which might also distract them.
The police route choice seems to be a way to get round the bollarded section.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
A BBC reporter said there was no other vehicle involved.
At the start of the incident the police van was right up the chuff of the scrotes' bike and yet further along it was something like 14/15 seconds behind and not using no blues and two's. That hardly describes a pursuit/chase. Perhaps the police van was on another, higher priority job and, coincidentally, was in that area.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
The BBC video appears to have been taken from a security camera at #7, Stanway Road (note the black front garden wall and the green phone exchange box opposite). Just before this, according to the Telegraph map they have negotiated the large circle that has the New Ely Church in the middle. This is a roundabout with speedbumps on it. The Telegraph map shows both of them going the wrong (short) way round the roundabout. If the boys took the short route over the pavement, and the police van took the long route around the roundabout, there's a 120m difference in distance. Given the police have to make three 90 degree turns and go round the roundabout, there's the one second pursuit distance stretching to 14 seconds.
Just after the video point, Stanway Road straightens out and is dead straight for about 400m to the bollards. With a 14 second gap, the boys are about halfway down the road when the police van comes back into sight. At which point the boy on the back yells to his mate "They're still after us!". Remember that the police van is a lot faster than an e-bike, two-up.
And if the police van then slows to turn into Howell Road, it will be turning just about as the boys reach the bollards. There's likely two possibilities here. Either the boys are now focused on negotiating the bollards and crossing Wilson Road, so don't spot they aren't being pursued until crossing Wilson Road, or they do spot the van turning and therefore taking the shortest route around the bollards.
This IS a police chase.
As a wild guess, just after crossing Wilson Road, the boy on the back tells the rider they have lost them, at which point the rider looks round...and as he's doing that they hit the speedbump in Snowden Road, it all goes squirrelly, and they collide with a (illegally) parked car. On my Google maps view, there's even an illegally parked car ON that speedbump.
If you check the map, there's no way a police vehicle going to Howell Road would go down Frank Road, it would take Plymouth Wood Road and Archer Road.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
The flower tributes are attached to a lamppost on the south side of the road (correct side of the road for travelling SW), about 30m beyond the speedbump, outside #11. If they did lose it after hitting the speedbump (which is outside #3), and went off into a parked car or one of the brick bin cubbies near the road, then this would be the nearest lamppost.
Snowden road in direction of travel of the boys.
Note speedbump, illegally parked cars, and the low brick wall and brick bin cubbies on the left
Lamppost with tributes is centre top, just in front of the red car.

Apparently one of the UK peasants attempted to enter Drowning Street, presumably 'cos he wanted to interview Sunak or *unt about their policies, but without a formal appointment;

Rumours that he was gatecrashing a Lockdown party for the #10 staff were quickly quashed...

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
There is a phenomenon known as 'excess deaths' which has reached the horrific figure of 22% above normal for similar statistical periods, yet UK Plod is not interested, nor is the MSM.
Even our illustrious MPs are blissfully ignorant of this ONS figure but seem incapable of asking the right questions, I wonder why?

Presumably the more intelligent, articulate and critically thinking O-N members might be able to put my mind at ease before the mystery 'lergy strikes me down before my time?

Apparently a Norwegian comedian called Vigo Venn has won the “talent show “ Britains Got Talent, obviously I’ve not watched it myself, but what is the country coming to.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

I don’t suppose there is a register of UK MPs’ academic and occupational experiences with which we could link such episodes of (literally) fantastic thinking?
Anyone noticed today’s UK weather and the lack of spinning wind turbines and roasting solar panels?
