Debasement of the coinage?
Have a look at the actual cost of buying a real silver coin compared to the "market" price of silver.
Then compare that with 3 years ago.
And that change is on top of the destruction of value by inflation.
And that's real inflation, in your own costs, not what the government says inflation is.
Because the government is attempting to pull the exact same trick the Roman Emperors did, run the inflation at around 2-5% per annum more than they say they are doing.
Human nature hasn't changed much in 1800 years, most people don't notice a 3% per year lie.

Encylopedia Britannica defines Capitalism as

Capitalism is a widely adopted economic system in which there is private ownership of the means of production. As such it is a laudable idea. Where it fails is when governments control or influence the free ideals of Capitalism. As fox says, it does not really exist, certainly in the UK, where government brazenly and visibly 'interfere' with the resulting 'advantage' going to 'approved' people.

The Torygraph 'scoop' leaked 'internal memo'

indicates a dissatisfaction with the current system (which I share).

Again, the good Encyclopedia (somewhat lengthily! and with extracts) defines 'Socialism' as

socialism, social and economic doctrine that calls for public rather than private ownership or control of property and natural resources........... Society as a whole, therefore, should own or at least control property for the benefit of all its members.

This conviction puts socialism in opposition to capitalism, which is based on private ownership of the means of production and allows individual choices in a free market to determine how goods and services are distributed. Socialists complain that capitalism necessarily leads to unfair and exploitative concentrations of wealth and power in the hands of the relative few who emerge victorious from free-market competition—people who then use their wealth and power to reinforce their dominance in society. ..........

Sadly we daily see the worst of both ideals, neither of which really allow for human foibles (a major failure!!). The current 'situation' with Covid and vaccination, the WEF, etc etc is a clear example. Whether 'The Great Reset', whatever that may be, would solve the dilemma..................?

It's perfectly sensible when you consider the young gangster's priorities. The victim dissed him, in front of his homies. That's life-or-death to a gangster, and so the victim got knifed.
Which is why I never admonish someone I don't know.
This is where current policing priorities inevitably lead.

Stats have changed a lot very recently (England and Wales)

in 2020, 20% of murders had no one charged.
By 2022, over 30% had no one charged.
The number murdered were almost identical (689 v 699).
Only 80% of those charged were found guilty of murder.

That's basically a 50/50* chance for the gangster, which is a heck of a long way from inevitable. He'll take risks that big on drug deals occasionally.

*Actually 55/45

Where I live, the murder conviction rate is 100% and has been for over 40 years. Furthermore, there hasn't been a stranger murder for that long too.

The reason is the usual one, according to a Police Inspector I used to know. The Police are always under pressure for rapid solutions. Someone decided to leak this information as a reason for the lack of a rapid solution.
That's not to justify it, just to explain it.

Politicians in power want nasty things to go away or be solved quickly. as all bad things damage their reputation with the public by association. Senior police get promoted for making that happen. Junior police likewise.
