The head of recruitment and selection for the UK’s Royal Air Force has resigned in protest over hiring restrictions on white males in a bid to meet “impossible” diversity goals, defense sources told Sky News on Tuesday.

The group captain reportedly expressed concern in her letter of resignation that placing limits on hiring could hurt the unit’s fighting strength.

Her apparent departure followed claims by defense sources that the RAF had imposed an “effective pause” on hiring white males, while pushing to hire more women and ethnic minorities.

An apt poem, suffused by the Christian spirit of the apocalypse, for his time, but also for our time, and perhaps for all times. When Protestant Yeats wrote that poem the "War to End All Wars" had just come to an end. The old certainties in Irish politics has been thrown into disarray by the Irish War of Independence after the 1916 uprising, and his wife had become very ill in the 1918 flu pandemic.

Plus ca change, but things do change too. I doubt that wars on "woke" would have moved Yeats's mystical soul as much as the fact that we seem to have learned little over the last 100 years or so, as we stumble inexorably onwards, towards another potentially truly apocalyptic war, and all around, conviction, save for ephemera and for the meanest of principles, seems to be absent everywhere!

So, the average voter isn't about to do something radical, like voting for an independent candidate, or voting for a new party led by someone they don't know, or organising a conscious boycott of elections.
