The Sunday Telegraph reports that Local Government secretary Robert Jenrick is expected to decide that the UK Government should take over the running of the city of Liverpool after a string of corruption allegations. What could possibly go wrong?
Oh yes, of course, they could put the Dodo in charge.

Those corruption allegations are all Maggie Thatcher's fault.

A "peaceful" demo against the Police and Crime Bill in Bristol has turned violent. Wonder if it's the same bunch of yobs what took part in the BLM demo's last year.

Britain's descent to the status of 3rd world power continues apace and Cummings has had his deluded way. More crack pipe politics, straight out of the delusions of 10 a penny military self help books and deluded wannabe's like Cummings et al.

The last time Britain had a standing army as small as this, it was a world economic power with an empire and a huge dominant navy, plus strong military alliances (think men and materials) in continental Europe. None of this pertains today.
There is punching above your weight and there is looking like a deluded midget hopping up and down threatening to rule the world. Monty Python comes to mind! Sadly modern Britain is a little more like the Black Knight than good King Arthur these days...
The idea that Britain will be projecting power around the world, like some latter day, imperial power, is simply preposterous. I wonder what our allies in the USA, and more significantly, our enemies in Russia and China, will be thinking of all, or so little, of this. I notice that none of the militarily leading nations have seen fit to reduce the number of modern ships, aircraft, battle tanks, helicopters and, most importantly trained "fighting" personnel in their forces. The Royal Marines are to be transformed into a new Future Commando Force (FCF) to be deployed around the world on an "enduring basis" in a major overhaul of the armed forces.
The Ministry of Defence said the FCF will take on many of the traditional tasks of the Special Forces, the SAS and SBS, alongside a new Army Ranger Regiment announced last week.
The changes are to be set out in a defence command paper, as forces are braced to lose some "industrial age" capabilities with older tanks, ships and warplanes to be axed or phased out early.
The biggest loser is expected to be the army, amid reports that around 10,000 troops are to be cut, reducing its overall strength to around 72,500.

Well it seems that the Red Arrows just barely survived, and yet the MOD sees fit repaint two serving Airbus aircraft at the cost of +- £2000000, to meet the vainglorious requirements of the Prime Minister while the RAF, like other services, struggles to keep the most basic units running....TheGreenGoblin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 3:39 amBritain's descent to the status of 3rd world power continues apace and Cummings has had his deluded way. Noted by The Express just prior to the bill's first reading .... https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/14097 ... ce-MoD-RAF
The loss of a Naval Hawk trainer this week underlies the very real dangers associated with this kind of inappropriate penny pinching while squandering money elsewhere...It comes as the RAF awaits its fate with the impending defence section Integrated Review - expected to be published next week (wb March 22). According to insiders, major decisions will include the scrapping of the Hercules transport aircraft, cutting the number of Boeing E-7 Wedgetail surveillance aircraft from five to three and axing the purchase of 90 F-35 fighter jets to leave just 48 while the RAF focuses on developing the new Tempest. Yet commanders are already facing increasing costs to maintain the ageing Hawk T1 jets used by the iconic Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, now estimated at £15m a year.

Perhaps they should just scrap the Red Arrows, surely the finest Ambassadors for Great Britain we have ever had, and replace them with a flight comprising of Johnson's garish and tackily painted Airbus duo and have them display. Perhaps we could call them The Johnsons, or the Poltroons or the Popinjays or something like that!
You couldn't make all this idiocy up FFS!

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
TGG, this has been a hot topic for many years as the Reds have retained the T1.
Can they afford to give them T2s?The Hawk is operational in two very distinct variants, the Hawk T.Mk 1 (and very similar Mk 1A) and T.Mk 2. The latter has replaced the Mk 1/1A in the flying training role, bringing personnel up to fast jet operational conversion unit (OCU) input standards after they graduate from the turboprop Texan T1.
The aircraft’s glass cockpit and comprehensive avionics suite provide a realistic advanced fast jet training platform which, as part of the UK Military Flying Training System (UK MFTS), meets current and future standards. It allows trainees to be immersed in more complex tactical environments, ‘downloading’ training from the OCUs onto the Hawk, which is far more economical to fly than the Typhoon or F35.

One would have hoped so but there isn't a budget for such sense apparently, vide. the abomination of a bill that was presented to parliament this very week!

They would need a red paint job, which would be too expensive!Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Fri Mar 26, 2021 8:03 amTGG, this has been a hot topic for many years as the Reds have retained the T1.Can they afford to give them T2s?The Hawk is operational in two very distinct variants, the Hawk T.Mk 1 (and very similar Mk 1A) and T.Mk 2. And tanks for the coloured diesel.
Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Isn't the simple solution to retain x of the 76 75 T1s and use them to sustain the team until....?
Also I believe the 'scrap the T1s' is BY 2030?

The on-going saga of Bonking Boris
Now it appears confirmed that he was shagging Jennifer Arcuri (see Daily Mirror) for 4 years (using £126,000 of taxpayer money) while his wife (now ex) was suffering from cancer, and he was shortly to be shagging Carrie Fisher (NB STILL only his 'Financee' not his 'wife'). What a rogue. I did not vote for him and I want him gone. Gossip claims he will soon 'marry' Carrie. Trust him? Look , his lips are moving.
Oh! Do I mention that there is no sign that Auntie Beeb is covering this story - that nice Tory BoJo put in as DG.........................?
