WTF is happening in the UK?
Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
The UK is, as far as I am concerned, now in a state of failure. Just about everywhere I look things do not 'work' properly, and that, unfortunately includes government (or is because of...?).
Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Questions for those who 'know':
1) Would a fixed penalty fine constitute a 'criminal record'?
2) Is a politician allowed to 'serve' with a criminal record?

Answer to 1) is no. Otherwise the night I decided to take on 11 of Britain's finest might stand against me!
On the latter question, see here...

What a pity!

The Conservatives - onwards and upwards
The stealth hand of Mrs Johnson (then Carrie Symonds) can be seen again. Dehenna Davison, the future doyen of the Tory party (MP for Bishop Auckland) is a friend of Carrie Johnson and a social media star (something called 'TikTok'?) and was 'persuaded' by Mrs J to stand there. She’s one of the new generation of red wall Conservative MPs and rumoured to be leader of the ‘pork pie plot’. Married - through a TV 'reality show' (and now divorcing) someone 59 years her senior. Nadine Dorries watch out!!
She has it all. Bi-sexual, pro-LGBT, social media star - what more do we need? (A bit of a 'looker' too....)

Blind people get a 75% discount on their Colour TV Licence. Isn't that enough? The Government must now take seriously its legal and moral obligations to narrow the disadvantages faced by people with disabilities and those of colour.
Why should the government "narrow the disadvantages" of people applying for jobs who are not up to it?
Douglas Bader was up to standard because he learned how to get over his disability. Other than asking for a wooden pegleg to be parachuted to him when he was a POW, he didn't whimper or whine or demand special preference. He got on with his life, on his terms and everybody else's terms.

As far as I'm aware, he did not make any such request. An offer was made, without any request being made by anyone!Other than asking for a wooden pegleg to be parachuted to him when he was a POW,

RPI, which very severely understates the actuality of real price inflation and of monetary inflation, is now posted at 7.8%.
What does anyone here think will happen to retail price inflation when the wealth generating workers start to understand the extent to which they are being ripped off by inflation and start to do the Oliver thing of holding up their gruel bowl to their masters and start asking for more?

OK, so people of such calibre tend not to ask for, and certainly wouldn't beg for, sympathy, nor would they implore special consideration.
They just adjust and get on with things.
That was the point which I, perhaps ineptly, was making.
Bader earned his place in Colditz. He did not attempt to escape from it. He knew his place and was respected by all for so knowing.
He never did that American Karen thing of yelling I'm a Celebrity so get me outta here.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
These are some comments from our recently departed (not dead!) Speaker of our Parliament regarding our Right Honourable Prime Minister;
---:He made his opposition to the current prime minister abundantly clear on Monday night when speaking to Sky News, and even went as far as to say Johnson has “no redeeming features”.
Asked if he would send the prime minister a love letter or letter of dismissal amid the ongoing debates about the need for Johnson to step down, Bercow replied: “Oh, without hesitation I would send him a letter of dismissal.”
“Never has a prime minister wielded so much power, made so little effective use of it, and been seen in quite such indecent haste to blow his own trumpet,” he continued.
“I’ve been aware of 12 prime ministers in my lifetime – by a country mile, Boris Johnson is the worst.
“He’s a narcissist, he doesn’t do the detail, he’s ritually dishonest, having a nodding acquaintance with the truth at best only in a leap year.
“He is responsible for a catalogue of failures.
“He is the most inarticulate public speaker and prime minister I have ever known.
“He has no redeeming virtues, he’s stayed there far too long.
“It is time that he gave up office and beetled off into the distance which would be an enormous relief, not just to this country and the European continent, but to the world.”
Luckily neither of them are on my Xmas card list and I suspect they're not socialising together either. Two more prime examples of the wet rot affecting the UK legislature it would be hard to find.

Any port in a storm eh bm? I have no respect for Johnson though even by the law of averages he will perform a certain percentage of his actions correctly.barkingmad wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 3:09 pmAsked if he would send the prime minister a love letter or letter of dismissal amid the ongoing debates about the need for Johnson to step down, Bercow replied: “Oh, without hesitation I would send him a letter of dismissal.”

How you can respect that cuckolded little ex- Speaker and quote his views to support your own agenda is beyond me. He was the fly in the ointment, the populist, egged on by that fragrant wife of his, who spoiled a long line of fair minded quality men and women in that position - apart from that thuggish Weegie bloke. There should be a cross-party agreed method of removing them when they get too big for their boots. By all means criticise Bunter but don't quote the man who should be cleaning sh*thouses somewhere if there was any justice.

Storm Doodlay seems to have displaced the non-existent invasion of Kiev, on the Beeb, for some reason.

The local wind in Angola didn't help my brother as he ran into a hail of Russian made (and projected, they captured two of the Russian bastards, one of whom became a family friend, now running a restaurant in Oudtshoorn)) sulphour grenades...Undried Plum wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 9:59 pmStorm Doodlay seems to have displaced the non-existent invasion of Kiev on the Beeb, for some reason.
