From February this year in this thread on the discussion on UK wiggly amps capacity I wrote: “My simple assertion is that in order to get heat energy into a domestic dwelling then more gas will be burnt at the power station end to achieve the same heat input into that home compared to if it was piped to the home and burned there.”

Now a little known news item 8 months later, 14th October, coupled with the publicity surrounding Macron’s threat to cut off energy supplies to Brexitting Britain might serve as a warning to our leaders that here is one more aspect of governance they’ve totally screwed up;

But still we hurtle onwards to the much-promised land of zero carbon in a ridiculously short timescale with everything in the UK turning electric.

As with many AV systems, .biz is regarded as 'spammy' as a domain and the MWB add-on was treating ANY .biz domain as 'spammy'. Multo complaints on the MWB fora. I have now disabled it.

BM, back to the OP, burn gas at power station or at home.

We all know that you need a power station simply to power the grid let alone actually deliver and juice to the consumer.

What is the transmission cost for gas?

We know the guvermint is phasing stopping gas heating in new builds soon. Swapping 3p/kW gas for 15p/kW for electric will be popular. Will electric heaters be less expensive than gas boilers to install and maintain?

Now I wonder about the economics of gas powered electricity in the home or even village? CHP already exists and avoids long distance power losses. What not have local nuclear power stations too.

I know Harold Wilson proposed using a nuclear submarine to power Norther Ireland but it was the wrong sort of wiggly amps. But why not build small portable plants of a similar size to a submarine. Mount these on platforms and use the river systems to site them nearer to point of use. Most major conurbations have access to a water course.

When you 'delve' into the Croneyism of politics you discover that a John Penrose (Conservative MP for Weston-super-Mare) is a member of a Conservative think-tank '1828' and has served as the 'United Kingdom Anti-Corruption Champion' since 2017. He has now been asked to lead a review into the 'UK competition policy'.

The 1828 committee recommended that PHE be disbanded. A new organisation, the new 'National Institute for Health Protection (NIHP)' has been formed and, small world, isn't it?, Mrs Penrose has the job of running it.
