Because releasing the information does nothing to explain "the lack of a rapid solution." nor does it make "nasty things...go away or be solved quickly". Their job is simply to find her, dead or alive, and if criminality was involved, arrest the perpetrator.

I suspect the purpose of the release was to make people aware that the missing woman may not have been acting rationally. Therefore, any search will likely take a lot longer. It also implies that she may have left the area voluntarily without the usual rational behaviour of contacting or telling someone. And by secondary implication, the fact that the search is taking a long time may not be due to an abduction; thus nasty things have at least partly gone away in the general public's mind.

^ But there was no need to go into specific details about the missing persons personal life. Also, it doesn't rule out any foul play by a third party, or indeed an accident. [-X

If the missing person had been a man, would the Police release a statement that the person had alcohol problems related to coping with erectile dysfunction? Somehow I think not!

Personally, I couldn't agree more.
As I said, I'm trying to explain based on what I've been told by Police Officers, not trying to justify.

Which now begs the obvious question - can you now justify automatically 'trusting' a police officer?

Erm, could you ever?

The UK is slightly different, but not much.

The police want a conviction. They'd like to convict the guilty party, but a conviction will do. It gets the politicians off their back and looks good for their stats, and so their promotions.
They have quotas. Quotas are government's way of saying we don't care about excuses, prosecute someone.
If they are looking to convict someone, not the right one, they'll pick the easiest person. Don't be the easiest person. Say nothing at all. Certainly not until you've spoken to a solicitor. Who will tell you to say nothing at all that you haven't discussed with them first.

Fox3, I could not agree more with your statement above. A conviction is all the police are interested in.

However, I believe the whole UK legal system is skewed towards 'the establishment'. By that I mean that in many cases an accused has to prove innocence rather that much vaunted, 'innocent until proven guilty'. An example of this are senior police officers stating publicly that 'victims' of crimes (particularly alleged sexual crimes), should come forward as, 'you will be believed'. Thus statements are used in court as evidence and taken as true when they may well be total fabrications. The accused then has to prove that the accusation is untrue, which can often be very difficult. Solicitors and barristers for the defence are too often no such thing and are also after the easy option with advice to plead guilty to get a lighter sentence. They all go home at night with much less bother whilst an innocent person gets taken off to prison. And as for the Probation Service, what a joke they are, if only it were not so serious. An organisation so unfit for purpose, I could almost write a book on the subject of their incompetence.

I don't think the UK system is different to any other.
I am loath to ascribe too much blame to those within the system. People have to earn a living. If the Government moves the goalposts, those with families do not often have the option of swapping careers, and not everyone (by a long chalk) has our level of bravery. I reserve my contempt for those at the top of the 'system', such as it is.
Personally, I've abandoned two careers because I was being asked to either do the impossible or the contemptible, and as such I understand the sacrifices that leaving a career entails. I do not blame the average person who baulks at that.

Meanwhile back at the Zero Carbon plan :-o

French energy group EDF has warned it could end up shouldering more of the soaring bill for nuclear power station Hinkley Point C as its Chinese partner may fail to meet its share of extra payments to finance the plant.

EDF admitted on Friday that the cost of building the plant, a flagship project, could rise above £32bn when factoring in recent inflation levels, more than 20 per cent higher than its estimate last year closer to £26bn.

The plant, in south-west England, is the first new nuclear power station to be built in Britain for almost 30 years. Its completion date has been repeatedly pushed back because of spiralling costs.

The increase, caused by surges in material prices several billion above the most recent estimates, is nearly 80 per cent more than the cost of £18bn in 2016, when EDF first started work on the project.

State-controlled EDF told investors on Friday that, when accounting for inflation, a more accurate cost for the project was now £32.7bn.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

A mile downstream from where she disappeared, and body was not found by the police. Hardly an extensive search, was it.

The Wyre isn't significantly tidal at that point. You have to get down to Cartford before it is.

Is there any aspect of their handling of this case that Lancashire Police now aren't being asked questions about?

And the dive teams, and the drone operators, and the police helicopter, and the boat teams, and the bank-walking PCs.
I presume they actually did use all of these.
I've just seen video showing a police boat team approaching the Cartford Toll Bridge from upstream, so they definitely went past the spot where the body was found.

We will have to see if there's any evidence that the body was placed in the water later. If that's not the case, it doesn't say much for their search efforts.

Still, I'm sure the Chief Constable of Lancashire will soon find himself Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. Missing the bleedin' obvious is the top quality required for that job.

DT reporting that the specialist private team weren't looking in the reeds.
“We weren't searching the reeds, our job was to search the water.”
One wonders whether the job boundaries were defined clearly enough, and the Police thought he was searching the reeds so didn't themselves.
I guess there will be a fair bit of finger-pointing and "Not me, guv"s in the next few days.

The answer to "how does one dispose of s body after committing murder" is now clear. Throw it in a river, and inform Lancashire police.

You are not the only one to be thinking along those lines but dare not say it out loud.

The river was only two feet deep where she was supposed to have fallen in.
There is a weir between there and the reeds in which the body was found.
On the path leading from the river to the road there is a fork without CCTV coverage.
How can a body suddenly appear after three weeks of intensive searching, and be so obvious as to be found by random people out for a walk?

As an avid viewe of Silent Witness bodies reappearing like this is apparently normal. The other thing they will be keen to establish is time of death.
